Chuck, What about Belmont?

I understand that a 9 furlong race at Belmont is a 1 turn race.
The longer she goes the more someone like Girl Pearls or Le Chateau has to come to ge her

:o

Not sure that thinking makes any sense. Belmont's stretch seemingly goes on forever. Arlington on the other hand uses the alternate (shorter) finish line for 9 furlongs and once they hit the top of the stretch there's not a lot of track left to make up ground.

In addition the competition is softer at Arl and there is a free shuttle offered between CD and Arlington which, saves a ton on shipping, win or lose.

After watching the inability of anyone (outside of the Belmont Stakes) to make up any ground in that long Belmont stretch, I wondered how Sumwon would handle the 1 turn 1 1/8th distance. She still seems to hesitate coming out of the turn and wondered what Chuck's opinion was.

track may have been souped that day...I remember the 1rst that day,I think a Opt Claiming race 6f finished in 1:08 and remember talk of that mostly from Hard Spun fans who were expecting a wire-to-wire victory. As of late and I really only follow Fri and w/e's it seems to be playing fair. Just think it doesn't make sense shipping to Belmont unless it was a stop on the way to Toga and it's likely she'll really be challenged start to finish in any Spa race.

Maybe I could see the reasoning she was coming back at both Pearls and Chateu and may have caught them on a longer stretch?

I would prefer to try her around 2 turns again if possible to keep from bouncing back and forth from one turn races and 2 turn races. Then again if something easy were dropped in our lap I think she can handle pretty much any scenario.

Chuck, Do you know yet how many stalls you'll have at Saratoga and will Sumwon be filling one of them?

I asked for 8 and probably will take 6. And Sumwon is scheduled to be in one of them.

Chuck,

Will certainly see you up there. How do we get in contact with you to visit the backstretch?

Thanks,
NC Tony

southerndutch 06-20-2007 01:25 PM

That's great news, Chuck. Look forward to seeing you again.

the alternate finish line is for 1 1/16 races at Arlington. For 9 furlongs it would be the normal finish line.

Will Sumwon have her reserved space at a picnic table with everyone else? :p

The midwest will be handing the filly over to the eastern contingent ... remember, all we did was spoil her with peppermints, you guys be nice to her, too, but no BBQ ! :D

BTW can't wait to ride her around the shedrow.

If you take her out partying with you, just remember the rule, "Always reserve enough cash money for bail".

Careful! Remember Let it Ride ...

"The 4 horse! Nobody bets the 4 horse, Trotter. The 4 horse is a joke. They let little kiddies on the 4 horse to have their picture taken."

Wouldn't want Sumwon to get the wrong idea :D
