at first glance...it seems like JV cut him off pretty bad with Deadly Dealer.

Kev, I wasn't watching Street Magician that closely, but if you're right, the drf chart should help your price next out. It says "hustled along outside, chased pace 3 wide, and was finished after a half mile".

Seth....watch the replay. It looks like SM gets cut off between Dealer and Hobbitontherocks. Clearly checks hard, but it is tricky to tell because Bejerano doesn't stand up in the saddle or anything of the such. But the horse dropped back to last and then re-rallied to finish 4th.

If you watch it on calracing.com, it is at the :44 second mark of the video.

Kev, I wasn't questioning your evaluation, just quoting the DRF charts. The best thing that can happen in a situation like that is the chart saying nothing about the trouble.
That said, I did just watch the replay again, and it is almost impossible to see the what happpened, other than SM dropping back to last. He finished 5th, so was it re-rallying, or simply passing Deadly Dealer and Hobbitontherocks?
