I love Nashoba's Key!

What a beautiful looking filly that won today at Hollywood beating Balance and Hysterical Lady. She is undefeated and I predict she'll keep on winning a few more before breaking the winning streak.

Her running motion looked kind of odd.....but other than that all she does is win! Sadly I'll never get 4-1 again most likely.

This horse IS a turf and dirt monster. What a wonderful performance she gave.

She did look very good. But eventually she will have to meet real dirt to prove herself. Or maybe they stay on syn. and turf.

Cushion is more like true dirt than Polycrap. I think she can handle that too. I had $ on the horse she ran down in deep stretch who ran a winning race. Yet I had chills when Nashoba's Key blew by her like she was standing still.

Why? She is already a stakes winner on turf against her elders. I don't remember Ouija Board ever proving herself on a real dirt surface, but I don't think that takes anything away from her greatness.
I see no reason to ever run this filly on real dirt. Since she has already demonstrated some ability on turf and the tires, why not just keep her there? There is nothing wrong with just being a good turf runner. There is certainly nothing wrong with being a good turf runner who is also versatile enough to win on cushion/poly.

I read mention of the Breeders cup Distaff.
Apparently she looked that good.

Ouija Board ran every race on grass, many races. This horse only has four races and apparently some do think she has versatility.

ohhhhhh a nice turf filly, who can also run on dirt? hmmmm....

I didn't have much time to watch any racing this weekend. Life is sometimes too friggen busy.

I will have to check her out.

Well I didn't see anyone on here say anything about the Distaff. But if someone else did then yeah......that would be VERY premature for a horse that has never run on dirt.
Of course, they could point her to next year's BC Distaff and she STILL wouldn't have to run on real dirt. Ability on real dirt is (whether we like it or not) rapidly becoming less and less relevant for Cali-based horses like her.
By the way, here is the chart from her race Sunday:

Her last race really caught my eye, and yesterday's was even better. She had a lot more life than Balance, who seemed to be pretty disinterested (could have been the cushion track, although Balance is good on Turf as well as dirt).

From a restricted state bred stakes win to beating two recent G1 winning horses like Balance and Hystericalady is quite an accomplishment. I'll be following her.

I personally think that is way premature, the Distaff. She beat Balance who might or not have been ready and on syn. And beat a speed ball. ANd dont tell the connections of Balance that dirt is not relevant. All of her big wins on dirt, mostly at Santa Anita. And I know the goal for this horse is the Distaff. I would keep the horse on grass but who am I.

I just watched the race and I liked the closing kick of this girl. I will definately have to watch her.

Right, but there will be no more dirt wins for anybody at Santa Anita.
With Santa Anita and Hollywood both having cushion tracks, and Del Mar having Poly, dirt ability won't matter as much for SoCal horses anymore. For the top-notch ones that want to ship and win G1s elsewhere it will, but for the majority of SoCal horses, ability on the tires is now more important than ability on dirt.
In terms of talking about this year's distaff for this particular filly though, we are in agreement. A horse should probably win SOMETHING on real dirt before the talk of a BC win on dirt begins.

This is very true.

I dont know if the people who determine what Balance does after the Distaff (assuming they make it) will do with her. Maybe she can run on the syn. Balance is 4 and will probably have won 1 million dollars by the time the BC rolls around.
