Time Squared to the Belmont

From DRF...

Time Squared to run in Belmont
By JAY PRIVMAN
Time Squared, who was sixth in the Blue Grass Stakes in April before winning an allowance race most recently, will run on Saturday in the 139th Belmont Stakes, trainer Patrick Biancone said Sunday.

Biancone said he believed Time Squared ran well in the Blue Grass, in which he finished just three lengths behind the victorious Dominican. "It was a very good race in a funny race," he said of the Blue Grass, which had a slow pace and a furious finish.

With Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense absent from the Belmont, and a small field expected, Biancone said he theorized, "Why not take a shot?"

Biancone said Time Squared would work at Keeneland on Tuesday and then fly to New York on Friday. Julien Leparoux has the mount.

I don't have any past performances in front of me. Who's he out of? Thanks.

Hickory Hill Hoff 06-03-2007 07:33 PM

Why not take a chance? Unless Darley has their sights on him.

I've always felt the Blue Grass was a perfect prep for the Belmont.

I'm just happy that Patrick will be at Belmont Saturday. I miss him. He's the greatest.

ArlJim78 06-03-2007 07:40 PM

the Belmont is getting more interesting.

now if we find out tomorrow that Cowtown Cat is wheeling back, everything will be set.

PPerfectfan 06-03-2007 07:43 PM

Well hell, they are running Digger, why not this guy? I really dont know why they are all entering, cause the Green Monkey w/ McCarron riding is gonna win the Belmont.... :D

Damn he pisses me off. I know he's a great horseman and is conservative and knows what's best for the horse, but I just wish he would give him a chance. He's one of my favorite horses and I think he would have a chance against these horses. He was one of my picks for the Derby before he didn't make it, then my pick for the Preakness, and then the Belmont but Matz keeps taking him to these smaller level stakes instead of giving him a chance. Oh well, there's obviously a reason he's a pretty good trainer but it just frusterates me because I think Chelokee would be good enough to compete.

Corinthian is a 4YO Matt.

I don't think Nick really has anyone. CP West could end up having a terrific year but I think he is waiting for the Dwyer. No sense sending him 1 1/2 miles with only three races under his belt. His Preakness was very encouraging.

I remember liking Time Squared in the Sham stakes awhile back. He ran last that day, and got beat by some real superstars like Kolo and Song of Navarone.
His pedigree seems right for 12f, but he literally has nothing else going for him. I suppose he could plod along for a minor share. If a horse like Andromeda's Hero (another FuPeg) could run second here in '05.....I suppose anything is possible.

But, Mr. Biancone...."Why run in the Belmont Stakes, is it because Street Sense is not running?"
His answer, a classic line from "The Pink Panther Strikes Again".... "Not anymore" :D
