Sumwon's (werk) Nick Rating

Look, I've got a lot of time right now.... so I was running the hypothetical mating of Came Home to Mysterious Moll, which is what gave us Sumwonlovesyou. I understand Dosage enough, but is anyone familiar with this Werk Rating? I'm not. But, it looks as though Sumwon gets an F. And I assume that is bad unless it stands for something other than the lowest grade possible. And I don't understand the quality points... what am I supposed to take away from this?

Pedigree Ann??? Or anyone else know what this means? Chuck?

the answers to your questions can all be found on their page...they are basically an assessment of the success or failure of sireline crosses.

Thanks.

from werkhorse.com...

It must be stressed that a below “Average” Werk Nick Rating® does not guarantee or even predict failure. It means only that, to date, the particular sire-line cross has fallen at least 16% short of what would be expected. Nicks can and do change over time.

Consequently, an above Average Nick Rating must be kept in proper perspective as there are other factors that must be considered when arranging a mating or selecting a horse for purchase.

The Werk Nick Rating® Scale is shown below:

Werk Nick Horse Variant
A++ Superior +1501
A+ Superb +500 to +1500
A Outstanding +150 to +499
B+ Very Good +100 to +149
B Good +50 to +99
C+ Acceptable +16 to +49
C Average -15 to +15
D+ Weak -16 to -34
D Poor -35 to -49
F Unsuccessful -50
0 SW Zero Stakes Winners 0 SW

I do think it would be interesting if those with pedigree/breeding experience would discuss how they would recommend breeding this Came Home-Mysterious Moll filly.

i've seen sales toppers with nick ratings of C or even lower. for sales purposes it just can't hurt to have as high a nik as possible. conformation is probably the biggest factor. combine that with a solid nik rating and a good overall pedigree and you are on your way. ...you can go to NYbreds.com and hypo her with most any ny stallion for free. AP Jet looks interesting, they all have their appeal. Millenium Wind is A++ if you like to cross Mr Prospector within the tail male pedigree of the sire...i personally do not like that for soundness concerns.

if you breed to race you can do your affordable homebred thing with SWLU...keep the foal and mare in kasept's back yard.
but this is your thing, the stable's thing. so start your hypos and find that great ped within your price range and geographical locale.

Well I am no expert, and I know this is all just fun hypotheticals, but too much Mr. P. is a bad thing in my opinion. If you wanted to go to a NY stallion, I think Ten Most Wanted for $7500 would be the way to go.
Something from the Slew sire line wouldn't be bad either....since she has no Slew in her at all.

Nicks are completely worthless once you hit the track. Obviously they have some statistical validity as certain crosses seem to work better than others.
Please stop with the NY bred stallions. Let's shoot a little higher than that.

I'm with you cannon...When SWLU is done running, and I hope that is not for a couple more years, with her being a KY bred herself it could be huge to come out of it with a KY bred colt or filly.

ok, how about starting with a few samples and seeing what people think about them.

Officer
Langfuhr
Stormy Atlantic

I know hardly anything...so, this is just for shlits and giggles. No ny breds as Chuck mentioned :)

If you have this much time on your hands, you might be better served figuring out who you should be breeding with.
