Street Sense Poll

Great horse? or Horse for the Course?

The Indomitable DrugS 05-07-2007 09:01 AM

No to being a "great horse."

In all three of the big races he's run in his career, he's had the same kind of perfect trip. He's also in a low-rated crop, and his speed figures certainly aren't any better than past top 3yo's from this decade.

I think it's fair to call him a CD "horse for the course" --- however, it takes a pretty impressive horse to return off a layoff, in a 3yo debut, going two-turns at Tampa Downs, and win with a triple digit figure. It's not like he can't run his race away from CD.

He is not a great horse, at this point in time.

the jury is still out...

Good horse. Not great, but could become one...

the other bad horses make him look like a very good horse....great trips.

Time will tell. No question he is #1 3 yr old now.

I agree with that, he is certainly at the top of the 3yo crop right now, has been at the top of his class since the BCJ. Repent use to say that he wouldn't even consider a horse until he/she beat older horses...I won't go that far, I rank the likes of Smarty Jones, Point Given and Risen Star very high but certainly to be considered more than good, he needs to win at least one more TC race and some races in the fall. If he wins the TC of course, I'll consider him great (it's a personal thing, I feel the TC signifies greatness) but again, others will want to see him beat older horses and there is a "pretty good" older horse out there waiting!

He is a very good horse, but he is certainly not a great horse yet.

The potential is there... When he turns on his jetpack, its a thing of beauty... His sustained move looks to be better than that of Afleet Alex...They just stand out of the crowd when they begin to make their "move".. When he hopped from the rail into the 2 path to pass a tiring horse, i got chills down my spine..

I agree, I don't think he is ready to take on Invasor. I think he has been managed and ridden perfectly. I have to wonder how good Hard spun could be if they actually had a plan like Nafsger.
