My Derby Poem

I wrote this some 25 years ago.

Prior to my graduation
In a crazy class
We had as our assignment
To write our epitaph

“I ended up as President”
Spoke one with great delight
“A millionaire”, “A manager”
Both followed on my right

As they turned and looked my way
I rose I spoke these words
“The best position I’ve found in life”
I followed up to say
“Is on the grounds of Churchill Downs
First Saturday in May”

Well this year I will not only be at the Derby for the first time in 22 years but will also begin the week with some horse I'm sure no one has heard of, Sumwonlovesyou, running as part owner on the Sunday before at Churchill.

Life is Good!!!!!!!!

It is at times like this that Morty's loss is felt most severly.

Tell Morty to get his head out of the Cozy Dooryard for a few minutes. Geesh.

A heart? Isn't that one of the things you have to trade in to earn your rep as a hard-nosed journalist?

Spydee,

Having written that in kindergarten is pretty darn good.. And I agree that having a horse in at Churchill Derby Week adds to the experience of this year's Rose Run trip for me as well.. See you at the Downs!

I think I should have addressed you directly the first time.

Now I forgot what I said.

There once was a horse on the grass,
That was always looking to pass.
When opened the gate,
He decided to wait...
That bet really cost me my a s s!
