Kentucky Derby cancelled

Due to the absence of ANY legitimate quality three year olds that can go ten furlongs, Churchill Downs announced that the 2007 Kentucky Derby has been cancelled and replaced on the card with a 1 mile and 70 yards Non winners of two other than allowance race. "The racing secretary felt that this was a more appropriate race given the lack of any decent three year olds and that he could use the two million dollar purse to beef up the overnight races during the remainder of the meet." The first Saturday in May will still be a great day of racing even while shuffling the inept sophmores to the back burner where they belong. There are six other Graded stakes filled with quality nominations so no one will even miss the Kentucky Derby by days end. The blanket of roses will be divided up into individual boquets for the winner's of each of the stakes, and My Old Kentucky Home will be sung before the Early Times Turf Handicap.

Priceless. You're so funny sometimes and don't even know it.

I thought it was the Woodford Reserve Turf Handicap??

The funny thing is that a thread like this surfaces every year. There's never a Derby good enough for everyone.

I preferred to leave it a bit more open ended.....but you pretty much got the gist of it!

It's both sad and funny that instead of taking this thread as an opportunity to examine the facts, which by the way speak for themselves, that this is an extrordinarily weak group of sophmores, several of the teenagers who are members here obviously don't have the intellectual capacity to have a serious discussion and instead prefer to fantasize that this crop is actually legitimate and to ridicule those who have a firm grasp on reality.

Interestingly, this is the same group of novices that don't get the irony that Funny Cide hates the cold weather.

They may suck but this is the Derby trail website and we are required by law to discuss the contenders as though they are alltime greats. Except PG, he is exempt.

"Facts" don't speak ...

"That this", as you've used it, is a dangling participle....

No wonder test scores are still down.

How do I get back my tax dollars that went to "No Child Left Behind?"

Buffymommy 04-10-2007 03:40 PM

I wonder if someone made a post like this in 1973? hmmm....

Thoroughbred Fan 04-10-2007 03:48 PM

While this is a pretty ridiculous thread, I often wonder if some wealthy horse owner would be interested in breeding, over several years, a group of horses with true stamina lines. There are very few races over nine furlongs for a horse like that anymore, but if you are rich you could breed for specific races.

Just a thought?

Well said.

What???? War Admiral would never make the tri in that race!
