Scavs SIU

Play that extremely good D and run that clock on offense with some easy scores. Thats what it takes. It ATM and Texas Tech could do it, ATM IN KANSAS, SIU can.

Lets get it.

pgardn 03-22-2007 06:23 PM

Patience on the offensive end, no turnovers, got to, absolute must, make Kansas work hard on defense. And play that good D.

I am back in Chicago Curty.....Richmond, oh man......

Dawgs are playing well tonight, scrapping. We hit them in the mouth and showed them we are here to play, not get smoked, should be a great 2nd half.

ddthetide 03-22-2007 07:24 PM

the run down i heard today on the radio, SIU can't score enough?....is this fair?...... i've not seen SIU this year...

Scav 03-22-2007 07:49 PM

HEART ATTACK CENTRAL RIGHT NOW

This is absolutely nuts

hoovesupsideyourhead 03-22-2007 07:54 PM

scavs feelling it..go siu:D

pgardn 03-22-2007 08:24 PM

dammit...

They were right there.
No one can say SIU did not belong on the court.
I knew they could pull this off... but thats the coin toss that is basketball.
This really was the correct matchup for SIU. Kansas could be out of this thing very easily. I knew Self was worried about this SIU team, just the type to take him out.

At times like these this is not good enough. ATM and SIU could have very easily gone forward. Those were evenly matched TEAMS despite the talent. So I dont think it feels good to lose despite a good effort. These kids work all year for this and the truth of the matter is that it comes down to a couple of bounces here or there.

Its not like what Florida did to about everybody last year, crush em. This is losing by a nose with big money on the line. Its random. Its very hard to swallow.

pgardn 03-22-2007 09:10 PM

These kinds of losses I personally take hard. If you just get slaughtered like Texas did against USC, its easier. You know you got beat by a better team that night.

These first two games... the coin was is in a circular spin on its edge and rotated the wrong way because a couple more molecules of air collided...
Randomness is a btch.

Scav 03-22-2007 09:49 PM

I agree, but seriously, we gained alot from playing the way we played today, and these kids just put everything out there, I appreciate that. I said on another thread that I don't respect talent, I respect passion and every Saluki has that, and Lowery only recruits kids with passion, and that in itself, makes us a great program

Scav, that pretty much sums up our alma mater. Low on talent, but high on passion!! hahahahahaha All the "talent" goes to UofI and various other sundry schools in the state. But, somehow, despite it all, SIU still manages to compete with good schools in many sports and programs. I, for one, was a member of the flight team there and I used to really get great satisfaction from kicking Big 10 schools' arses all over the airport.:D :D

I had mostly done reading about the Salukis this year, and not that much actual watching. I was so impressed with them tonight, because the things I had read about them were not just superlatives. Every kid on that team was all out for the entire game. Their defense swarming and put a team like Kansas to the test.

On paper, and just raw talent, Kansas is the kind of team that should take care of a team like SIU, but like Scavs said -- that intensity will par them up to talent every time.

It's funny looking back, I'm not saying that the calls would have changed the outcome per se -- but two 24 second violations were called totally wrong. The 'Hawks got two points on one where he was clearly holding on to the ball when the clock ran out...and later, the Salukis lost a violation in the 2nd half that shouldn't have been one. The guy who got the offensive board seemed to know it, but the clock never got changed.

Who knows how those few points would have affected the outcome, but in a game like this, every point counts.

I thought they played great. Even in a loss, I thought they were wildly impressive and nothing to hang their heads about.

Brian, I don't even want to start blaming the refs because it makes us mid-majors look bad. I will say that the one 24 second call (the dunk) was horrible. the others, I can understand because they are judgement

SCUDSBROTHER 03-22-2007 10:22 PM

Scavs, how come this school uses a towel-head dog? Pretty odd.Do you know the story behind it?

I'm not trying to "blame" them either, because SIU had plenty of chances to get back in the game -- they had lots of chances to make stops and didn't and to follow up offensively and they didn't.

I was just thinking out loud about how little calls like that can really impact a game that isn't a blowout. The first 35 second call was a mess, the one on SIU was a bit easier to miss.

ddthetide 03-23-2007 10:25 AM

must have been a great game, concrats on a good season SIU.
jay bilus on espn radio this morning, gave them GREAT props !!
