I posed this question on ESPN board a couple years ago...and interested to see what some different members here think. Always fun to get others perspective.

Your top 3 guitarists of all time.

1. Jimi
2. Kirk Hammett
3. Stevie Ray Vaughn

And perhaps Charlie Byrd also belongs on that list...I never was honored to experience Segovia live and in person but I did have that opportunity with Charlie Byrd...I stood less than 5 feet from him during a concert at Salem College and was absolutely speechless...the man played Flight of the Bumblebee on the 12 string....mere mortals simply can't do that!

Way tough to narrow......

So i'll give you a top choice, then throw out some other favs.
1. Stevie Ray Vaughn
The guy played with such feeling. He knew not only how to make the guitar talk, but he could also make it weep, sometimes both in the same song! He was genious!
Others favs: Jimi, Prince, BB King, Buddy Guy, Albert King, Albert Collins, Mark Knophler, Chet Atkins, David Gilmour, Robbie Robertson, Carlos Santana, Eddie Vanhalen, Jeff Beck, Dwayne Alman, Dickie Betts, Gary Rossington, George Throrogood, Neil Young(he plays great too), Jeff Healy, John Mayer(new but really talented), Robert Cray, Hubert Sumlin (played with Howlin Wolf, for those into blues like myself). I could go on, and on, and on, as you can see lol! I'm into a variety of music types, and those are a few of the ones that come to mind. I apologize for the long list. :D

The usuals are repeated.

I like these two.

Mark Knofler

Vince Gill

Both, can hang with the greats all day and night. They are, matter of fact, two of the greats, in my mind.

I always wondered what happened to him once he stopped playing ball for the terps.....:D

I don't play guitar so I'd feel like a fraud rating the skills of someone who does. It's like "best brain surgeon". How the hell would I know?

Nonetheless, I do have favorites. Not saying their, there, they're (just being safe) the best but I like:

Robert Fripp
Billy Zoom (the nicest man in punk rock)
