Sad story.
I also hope they get them back.
If not, do you think they'll be buried in the Bahamas?

Can't believe people would pay $2500 for any dog.I can see paying a lot to save your dog,but not to buy one that you don't know.

Scuds, parents paid $1200 for our pure bred golden retriever. Golden's have alot of problems with being overbred and they have issues with hips/eyes and allergies, and the reason she was so expensive was because they were certified to have those things as being ok. We had a scare about Libby possibly being blind and having some sort of corona problem, well it was to the point where the dog eye doctor called the breeder and told her to CEASE breeding....pretty crazy....and Libby is not blind, even funnier story about that

Do you mean that the breeders have tested the actual pups you buy,or are you referring to breeders that test their own breeding dogs? If they have genetic marker tests that can rule out a disease in a pup, then I can see paying for it,but usually they are referring to the fact that they aren't breeding using dogs that have these problems. They x ray their hips, and examine their eyes. These dogs can still breed dogs with these health problems(they can carry genes.)So,I think they are charging you extra to keep any afflicted dogs (that have these problems) from breeding. They should be doing this anyways. So,what I am telling you is that they are charging extra for something any good breeder (who cares about that breed) would do naturally.Unless you can totally rule out a disease by genetic marker testing of pups, you can't be sure a pup won't get a specific disease.See,if you love a certain breed, then what would you want ? Would you want that breed to be rare and expensive to buy??? Why?? If you think it is a terrific breed, then you would want many more people to enjoy them.

Weren't these Yorkshire Terrier pups? I have one that's 5 years old, and yes Scuds., people do pay that, and more. A breeder, near my home, charges $3K and up for puppies that are show quality, meaning perfect conformation. (Folks in show dog business are nuts!)

Champion breeding lines in dogs are at a premium akin to that of classic bloodlines in horses.

Even for a pet, not planned for dog shows, puppies, today, can be quite expensive.

I am glad this family got the mother and her pups back. The culprits, may have found the pups tatooed, and learned they could not sell them. Smart breeder, if so.

Just as this sad thread shows, when you start charging big prices for dog breeds, then you attract scum into the business.Normally, they start breeding the dogs themselves, but this took a more extreme route. What usually happens is they start breeding without interest in the breed standard. For instance,if it's a toy breed, they will start making larger and larger dogs etc.
