Saratoga on my mind

Heaven=Saratoga...no doubt.

I'm hopeing to make it up there. I now live in SC and have grown up on the horses from the Big T to travelling to most US tracks. I now have 35 years of inexperience playing the ponies but I'm getting better.

Anyway, if I do go it's got to be on a budget. Anyone have suggestions of where I can stay and not pay a fortune??? I'll be glad to share my picks so at least you can eliminate some of the horses (The ones I choose)

Thanks,
Spyder

If you are driving stay outside of Saratoga and drive in. Maybe Albany. You don't even want to consider renting a hotel room. Seriously cuts into money available to gamble.

Go to the Chamber of Commerce website ... www.saratoga.org ... for lodging possibilities and rates.

You're quite late in making your plans for this year ... you should have done it no later than April or early May ... even earlier if possible. If you stay on weeknights ... Monday-Thursday ... you can get pretty good rates at decent places ... usually under $100 per night or just a bit more.

Weekend rates can be quite high ... and are probably unavailable at this late date.

Try staying in Glens Falls or South Glens Falls ... about 15-20 miles north ... or Lake George ... where there are a zillion motels ... but 25-30 miles away.

I called the Fairfield Inn, which is 7 miles from the track, fairly new and very nice. Just to give you an idea, avg price of a room on a fri-sat-sun night is $279 per night.

I've stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Albany. It's the SUNY-Albany location.

I'm already booked there for a couple of weekends this summer. Free internet, great breakfast included. Nice rooms. Across the street from where the football Giants practice. Lots of coaches families stay there also.

Lots of food places nearby on Western Ave.

20 minutes to the track. I got it for $89.00 per night. Now it might be 120.00 per

Spyder,

If you're on a budget, Call the Cambridge Motel in Cambridge, NY... 22 miles east of Toga, 30 min. drive, halfway between the Spa and Manchester, VT... Cambridge, the Cambridge Hotel specifically, is the home of Pie ala Mode.. First served there in like 1904. (You can't make this stuff up...)

I live west of Cambridge in Greenwich, 13 miles from Toga.. Cambridge Motel shouldn't be more than $50 night. It was $30 8-9 years ago when I started staying there. (It's how I ended up in Washington County in fact..) Roomy, clean, great little town and having Manchester, VT equally close is another positive as it's a really fun destination... Outlets, Mt. Equinox, Orvis HQ if you're a fisherman, lots more... A great restaurant there: Anthony's Table.

A Washington County stay adds a lot to a Toga visit... The Saratoga National Monument/Battlefield, Phillip Schuyler House in Schuylerville.. (Not actually Wash. Cty.), Grandma Moses Home/Grave in Eagle Bridge (all her paintings are Washington County scenes); Whitehall: the Birthplace of the U.S. Navy, created by Benedict Arnold to defend Lake Champlain; Susan B. Anthony and Chester Arthur Birthplaces (Greenwich actually for both)... Lots more...

And you still have everything in toga too... And Bennington, VT... and Lake George... This area is a god damn 150 square mile theme park...
