Strong Contender to Stonewall

He will stand for $10,000. I find this kind of obsurd myself!

SniperSB23 02-21-2007 10:09 AM

They've got the Dream Team of new stallions now with Strong Pretender, Da Stoops, Too Much Bling, It's No Joke, Frisco Star, and AP Warrior.

witchdoctor 02-21-2007 11:00 AM

AP Warrior has gone to Texas A and M for surgery on a twisted testicle.

When did Too Much Bling retire?

He retired last summer but forgot to tell anyone. So Baffert not knowing that TMB had retired himself put him in the BC Sprint so dummies like me could bet on him.

You and me both on that one Cannon. If he has truly retired, he's probably done enough. He did dominate older horses last year.

Stonewall Farm Stallions has purchased multiple graded winner Too Much Bling and will stand him for $10,000 at Sequel Stallions near Ocala, Fla., in 2007. Too Much Bling, a 3-year-old son of Rubiano and the Formal Dinner mare Rose Colored Lady, won the Grade 2 Carry Back and Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes and the Grade 3 Bay Shore Stakes, and earned $509,674.

Bet You Didn't Know: Too Much Bling's dam, Ready For Roses, is in foal to Smarty Jones for the 2006-'07 breeding season.

I know Robfla, I was being sarcastic, but that's hard to read on a message board. So was he injured and retired, or did they figure he'd just be in great demand as a stallion because of the 40 or 50 bullets Baffert had him fire leading up to the BC?

I think Stonewall wants to expand their breeding operation so are just breeding anything with four legs and a set of testicles and hoping a couple succeed at stud. I guess if they are looking for eight new stallions and can get two out of six to pan out each year they'll get there in four years. Doesn't seem a good strategy to me since the majority of the horses would be better served on the track this year but I guess they can blow their millions however they want.

when i saw the news yesterday, my first thought was 'who didn't see that coming?!'

Currently I have a hard time seeing any of the stallions they stand having any major success.

Me too but at least if they have six with little chance of success their chance of one succeeding is a little better.

Not really

Danzig 02-21-2007 12:30 PM

oh, you know those pages and pages of ads in bloodhorse will ensure all the success they can handle...

who needs a broodmare band to support a stallion when you can just run ads for second tier horses--other than medaglia doro that is. and i'm being too kind to some of hte others by calling them second tier!

Cannon Shell 02-21-2007 12:30 PM

Though we dont have any idea what their goals are, they probably should have gone after an established sire to build around instead of the current "throw enough crap aginst the wall..." theory they have now. Not that I am a huge buyer but I usually have around $600k - $1 million a year to spend for clients. And I can say that I don't have a great deal of interest in any of thier stallions. I will look at the babies but personally I hate buying horses by young stallions that I dont think will be good stallions.

I heard that he broke down not long after the BC.

Cajungator26 02-21-2007 01:09 PM

Well, I guess I'm in the minority here, but I love Strong Contender's chances at stud. With all of the Mr. P mares out there, think about the possibilities for him. JMO...
