Nice Dixie.

less than half the derby field size with only 9 in the preakness.

what's the average number of starters for this race? seems lower than usual-and i'm not complaining! just curious.

That's not going to be statistically significant, as field size has changed so much in the Triple Crown races over the past few decades. The average size of a Kentucky Derby field is just over 12, and fat chance we'll ever see a Kentucky Derby with just 12 or 13 starters again.

I'm not sure what the average number over the past 15 years is, which might give a better picture. And I'm too lazy to google. ;)

This will be the 4th time since 2000 the Preakness has had fewer than 10 runners.

I noticed that Race 13 is a pretty weak field for an allowance race except for Code West and Bluegrass Springs.

If you feel strong about any horse in the Preakness, maybe a double singling one horse in the Preakness and Code West in Race 13 isn't such a bad idea.

He must be doing the under-card tour of the Triple Crown.

I don’t trust this horse at all. I needed him for a giant pick 3 Derby day, multiple times!!! I successfully crushed the all button in the previous race and the race before loved Mcpeek as the big class horse, all he had to do was take to turf, and he did. Code West looked like a total standout that day. He does again Saturday vs an even worst field. Lower price, likely 1-5. No Thanks.

You successfully crushed the all button? Oy vey.

I realize you wouldn't even know what to look for if you tried, but Code West had like 5 lengths worth of trouble and was hampered by a sh.it ride by Bejarano, who decided to take back in a race where no one went. Who in this field can beat him? I don't like eating chalk at all, but there are times to try and beat the favorites, when you have viable alternatives and there are times not to. This is a time not to.

Unless you're going to crush the all button again.

Its just strange to me Baffert is shipping this horse around to run in NW1x races when he could easily win these events at home for the same money. Something just doesn't seem right, but yea on paper he should win.

Who in there can beat him though? The only horse I could even consider is Crown Polis as McMahon is a pretty good move up trainer.

I can't believe I am trumpeting the merits of a 1/5 shot on paper, but I'm just trying to figure out who the alternative is. Aren't there much better races to try and best the favorite this weekend?

Exactly. He almost has to fall down to lose.

Crown Polis is the only logical alternative, but he has been through the Ziadie and Vazquez machines and will now have to duplicate a career best effort in just 3 weeks? Not for me.

Even money on Orb! Those bettors are getting less than 1-2 on Orb.

Yep. Almost 700k in the pool. The best case scenario for the DD is $2.80 for a buck. The winner of the Special paid $3.20. $10 to win in the first leg gives you $16 to put on Orb so a parlay at 1/2 pays $24.

You cant help yourself bro. Thats clear to everyone, not just me.
It was 2 weeks ago. But my main ticket was Antigun/all/West for $5. It cost around 60-70. The pick 3 was around 600$. I also had maybe another $1.50 worth of backups. This horse sucks. He broke slow, his speed was zapped. You crush him tomorrow. Even if he wins, who cares??? The great Dahossy now plays 1-5 shots?

You to touting a 1-5 shot? Whats happening to you? I notice a lot of chalk in your picks on Togas website. You never used to cap that way.
Nice call on Denver in the first round also. You came in all smug, told me how good they were. Never said another word about it? Good luck tomorrow.
