I'm a little choked up right now. Got the shakes. :(

was looking forward to "and down the stretch they come" right when they cross the wire.

For the most part he has been pretty darn bad for a few years. His call a year or two ago of the West Virginia Derby (I think that was the race) is the single worst race call I have ever heard.
However, he was decent enough in his prime...and he had a couple good Derby calls in his day. For example, I always liked his 1997 "and here comes THE CAPTAIN!" call for Captain Bodgit flying at Silver Charm.
I am sure he is probably a little sad about it, but how many people really listen to the race on the radio anyway?

can't he just yell
"AND DOWN THE STRETCH THEY COME!"

and let someone else call the race? ;)
