American success in Europe

There is noise about California Chrome going to Europe next season. I think that is a mistake BUT please this is not a question about that issue! I was wondering more about the history of American racing. I can't recall much success with American raced horses shipping to Europe.

Fourstars Allstar won a European classic in the Irish Two Thousand Guineas (Ire-I) back in 1991.

Yes, Wesley Ward won a group two back in 09.

Any American raced horse ever jumped The Pond and won a really prestigious race in Europe?

It depends on what you determine as success.

Ward has done really well with 2yos there as you mentioned, and Cannonball ran 6th and 2nd for him in the two major sprints at Royal Ascot...I'd consider that a success.

Verrazano is now trained by O'Brien and was 2nd and 3rd in G1s. On the fence on if he is still deemed American.

Elsewhere abroad there is of course there is the dirt/poly success in Dubai and Japan. Morluc (Randy Morse) was two noses away from being a dual Hong Kong Sprint winner. Obviously this isn't Europe...

Not much else really pops off the head but I am sure I am missing something.

Omaha ran second in the Gold Cup in 1936.

I believe Verrazano has been retired

Hard Buck ran second in the King George at Ascot for McPeek.

No Nay Never, Hootenanny, and Cannonball have run very well in Europe for Wesley Ward. For that matter, Undrafted's 4th behind Slade Power this year was a very strong effort as well.
