Thats A Given will not run in the Belmont

Thats A Given's work this morning was not good enough in Jerkens and Lansdon's opinion that it justifies running him in the Belmont Stakes. He will instead run next in a non winners of one other than allowance race. he always does what is prudent when it involves his horses.

He always does what is best for the horse. The work this morning was not satisfactory, so he will pass so as not to harm his future development. Non winners of one it is.

What does a trainer look for in a workout? How do they determine that a horse is ready?

Its not just raw time. Several factors involved, how they move, and how they finish as well. Lets just say that if a horse works 7F and doesnt finish it well, you don't wanna send him a mile and a half. Time isnt the only issue.

Does the fact that the workout wasn't satisfactory mean that you want to get another work in before the NW1 race???

Bummer, but now I will really look forward to where they run him next. Any chance there is a non-winner of one listed for Belmont Day?

There is one the day before, and his work wasnt bad, its just that when you are gonna step one up that much, you are looking for a spectacular move, not a good one.
