If they re-build it, I will be there. From what I read, it looks like this will happen. Just hope it doesn't end up like Michigan, whereas they played "musical tracks" until one by one, they closed.

Hammer discussed the trip Friday. They're giving serious consideration to making the surface turf only.

Green
That would be cool. Imagine nice Monday and Tuesday cards all summer. It was always blast there . Maybe Howard Lanci would make a comeback. Lotta room in the infield there.

Nice!
All I think of when I hear Great Barrington is Andy Beyer's book.......would love to go there............classic chapter.

My friend is the lead engineer that appeared in that story. We had an email exchange a while ago about it.
I told I personally thought an all-turf course would be a terrific idea, and gosh I wish there was room for a facility like Colonial or even better KD that could possibly attract those kinds of runners for some nice meets, horses that may not be banging heads at SAR. I just don't get enthused about a casino-subsidized bullring in a remote-ish area trying to draw on a horse population already diminished and spread thin. And I say this as someone who grew up at The Rock, Suffolk, Scarborough, Hinsdale, etc. |
Driving through the tunnel under the track to the infield is not something you get to do anymore.
GBF fun fact. Race caller has it easy as the silks are all red for the one Hoss, white for the deuce, blue for the 3 etc.... |
