Nice to see the Lafayette back as a straight 3yo race in the spring after only a couple of renewals in the fall during BC meetings (open to older horses) in the past decade.
Forty Niner, Round Table, Housebuster, and Cherokee Run all won this race. Not sure it needs a $400k purse, though. If they keep it around it should be a good lead-in to the Pat Day Mile for horses on the Woody Stephens/Allen Jerkens path and for some late-starting 3yos. If the stars had aligned perhaps we could have seen a Jack Christopher-Corniche matchup in this race. |
