$1 Million Derby Bonus

Yum! Brands is apparently going to give a bonus if the winner wins by more than 6 1/2 lengths. The million will be divided evenly between the owner, trainer, jockey, and a charity. The charity this year is the Barbaro Fund. Interesting idea.

Here's the link.

you neglected to mention that its being called the yumfecta, since yum! foods is the sponsor.

They are really going out on a limb.

I'll give the winner a million bucks if his rider carries a seltzer bottle instead of a whip.

philcski 04-30-2007 02:29 PM

I'd insure that bet for $100, because there's about a 1 in 10,000 chance of that happening.

doesnt yuck! foods own taco bell?

what i'd like them to do is replace a jockey in the derby with that little chihuaha (sp?) that used to star in the taco bell commercials. perhaps on a pletcher horse.

dam thats cold.....

typically i dont really consider riders, but is the derby one of those races that having a pressure rider might make a difference? I guess maybe not, stuart elliot won the dang thing.

good one. I don't see anyone winning by that much this year and apparently neither does Yuck Brand. I think they own KFC.. Kentucky Fried Chicken Ky Derby makes more sense then "Yum!"
hmmm. maybe KY Jelly can sponser the Derby next year

weak

SentToStud 04-30-2007 04:37 PM

I imagine when Juan Leyva is up by 5 at the 1/16, he'll go to his strong left hand just to get the bonus.

lol, the KY Derby sponsored by KY.

Has a nice ring to it.

Maybe the winning owner gets a $1million worth of the "warming" jelly.

Oh, I don't believe that.

The only obstacle to my Juan Leyva strong left hand whip theory is that I don't believe Juan Leyva has a left hand, at least I don't recall ever seeing him use it.

Maybe he studied under Jean Cruget.

randallscott35 04-30-2007 07:48 PM

What a silly bonus concept. Shame Visa stopped having the balls to have the Triple Crown bonus....but how many lengths to win by? Huh. Silly.

Trivia time.

Without Googling, who was the voice for the Chihuaha in those commercials?

Somewhat known actor, at least in a TV show (comedy), and a movie spinoff from the show...

They are admitting to the world; 'we have no clue what the Ky. derby is really about.'
