Bricks and Mortar on fence for Breeders' Cup Turf
Steve Andersen

Bricks and Mortar, unbeaten leader of the American turf division this year, may start in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Mile instead of the $4 million Breeders’ Cup Turf, trainer Chad Brown said earlier this week. Both races are Nov. 2 at Santa Anita.

Brown added that whichever race the seven-time stakes winner runs in, he is unlikely to race before then. Bricks and Mortar won his fifth stakes of 2019 in the Arlington Million at 1 1/4 miles on Aug. 10 at Arlington Park.

It makes no sense to me why you would go for
less money in a much tougher race. Last time Bricks & Mortar raced
at a mile was a year ago. Lots of people love the cut back
angle but most BC winners are specialists at their respective distance

Feel free to share Bricks and Mortar's 12F races.

This is true, but I still think he has
a better chance and more money in the turf

That's a fair question. I think he has a better chance in the Mile but from an expected value, strictly earnings based, he may be better off in the 12F race.

It's a reasonable discussion.

Enable's connections contemplating final career start in Turf
@DRFSteve Andersen ~ Oct 09, 2019

The role of favorite for the $4 million Breeders’ Cup Turf on Nov. 2 at Santa Anita may become clear in the next week.

Enable, the brilliant mare who was second in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp Racecourse in Paris on Sunday and won the 2018 BC Turf at Churchill Downs, may be sent to California for a final career start. Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager for owner Khalid Abdullah’s Juddmonte Farms, wrote in an email Tuesday that a decision on Enable’s plans will be made “in the coming week or so.”

Enable would be a solid favorite if she runs in the BC Turf. A winner of 13 of 15 starts, Enable, 5, was 4-5 in the 2018 BC Turf. There is a contingent of highly rated European runners under consideration, including Waldgeist and Japan, who were first and fourth in the Arc de Triomphe; and Anthony Van Dyck, who won the English Derby in June.

Kind of surprising with the BC in California. Seems they talk about her always wanting some give in the turf.

With Bricks and Mortar kind of stuck in the middle between the Mile and Turf, if he were yours, would you consider the Classic? This is such a weak Classic that it might be just the time for a non traditional type to take it.

No way Uni runs in the F & M Turf. She’s a miler

parsixfarms 10-14-2019 06:21 PM

Where will the starting gate be located for the Turf and Filly and Mare Turf? Are they still coming down the hill for these races?

You don’t win like he does by placing your horses in the wrong spots. He runs to win races. There are 3 turf races.

Uni is a miler. She belongs in the mile. Sistercharlie, as good as she is would get drowned in the Turf. She belongs in the F & M Turf.

Out of BC. Stays in training next year.
