Groundhog Day has become an ATR tradition.. It's one of my favorite films.

No one has recognized young married 'Fred' in this, his first theatrical film role?

I never noticed it in the movie, but seeing the picture I see him now. It's Michael Shannon of Boardwalk Empire (and a bunch of other great roles) fame.

It is indeed Michael Shannon who has embodied one of the most singularly bizarre characters on television since any number of candidates in Twin Peaks: Nelson Van Alden...

Well, at least with all these pics, I will never have to watch the movie again. Never. Ever.

Roger Ebert tweeted his 'Great Movies' write-up of "Groundhog Day" earlier this afternoon.

Nelson's a strange duck alright. Michael Shannon's one the best in the business at the moment.

funny enough this movie was filmed in my wifes home town. my friends had a bar there. lots of crew and bill getting efed up wile filming..they said at the time he was alot of fun and very cool guy...

but, unlike rht, you only have to deal with him one day a year
