i hate to see it happen to a decent kid but the team rules are to be followed by all. i'm glad CNS dropped the hammer.:(

Unfortunate thing for the team!

jwkniska 12-29-2008 04:20 PM

espn said it's due to improper dealings with an agent. wish he'd play since I've got bama on every pick'em sheet I'm in, but the coaches/university did the right thing.

ddthetide 12-29-2008 04:32 PM

sad thing is if it was an agent, his college career is over whether AS wanted it to or not.
i wish ncaa would prosecute the agents, it would stop some of the contact.

prosecute them, take their agent license away and take away a portion of their income from being an agent (not just from the one guy that got in trouble, but all their clients). that would be a good 1st step to get rid of them doing this.

they need to start penalizing the players after they sign contracts. the agents and players walk away free with classmates and the school to deal with the trouble they've caused. Bama went through this with antonio langham.

Something should be done. It's not like he didn't have alot to do besides talk to an agent. Do they have to wait til the seasons over?

Coach Pants 12-29-2008 05:48 PM

Fine by me. He's gonna have to toughen up if he wants to be successful in the pros.

as long as they are in the program, players can have NO contact with agents period. they can't deal with agents until the officially enter the draft.
at one time texas and alabama had state laws against agents contacting "student athletes" (not sure if the still do). if this happened in NOLa nothing can be done under state laws.

I can understand a junior wanting to test the waters, but that's a heavy price to pay for 'suspect' info from an agent.

well i think he graduated this month or graduates in may, so he's early. he has to go nfl draft now, he can't come back to play at Bama next year.

Yup....no cushion now for him

Personally I think that a player should have the right to hire an agent whenever they want. Why should they not have someone working on their behalf? The NCAA is a joke of an organaztion. These retards dont even have the sense to control their own members football "playoff" system. While many agents are bad guys, some of the advice these players get from their cronies, family, friends is worse.

Guy will most likely be a first round pick, yet alone a top 10 pick.

update

a buddy of mine in Tuscaloosa passed this along to me today.

"From the bits and pieces I have gathered some have told me that Andre didn't do anything but a family member, possibly his uncle or his dad, took out an insurance policy on Andre through an agent before the Bowl game. Another agent who wanted Andre turned them in. I'm not going to say this is etched in stone."

pgardn 12-30-2008 07:25 PM

These kids are told over and over again what the rules
are concerning parents, contacts with agents , yada yada yada.

My daughter had to sit through four 1 hour presentations about
contact between colleges and players her junior and senior year
at AAU tourmanments not associated with school. Had to sign
forms that she understood... I had to listen
to the same Dick Vitale video on all the contact rules 4 different times
and sign papers. It is ridiculous how careful they are.

After kids sign up with a school they are pounded with all the other rules.
Most of them know these rules better than any class they are taking.

No excuses.
Except maybe stupidity.
