starvation is a horrible, painful, drawn out way to go. glad they did this quickly, rather than letting nature 'take its course'. i'd rather be put down!

JUDGE ISSUES WRIT OF HABEAS CORPUS ON BEHALF OF CHIMP

"For the first time in history a judge has granted an order to show cause and writ of habeas corpus on behalf of a nonhuman animal. This afternoon, in a case brought by the Nonhuman Rights Project (NhRP), Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Barbara Jaffe issued an order to show cause and writ of habeas corpus on behalf of two chimpanzees, Hercules and Leo, who are being used for biomedical experimentation at Stony Brook University on Long Island, New York."

Really great news and hoping they make it to that island.

Sigh. Not a good story, and a reminder that pets really are, for some people, members of the family.

The great guitarist Slash co-produced this song to raise awareness for Elephants. The video is very powerful, but it does contain some brutal images.

he removed a no longer capable of breeding older male that was a threat to younger males.
sorry, I don't have an issue with this one. his money he spent goes to help in anti-poaching efforts, and removes a danger to breeding males.

'The hunt is sanctioned and monitored by Namibia's Ministry of Environment and Tourism. It has identified 18 black rhinos across the country that meet the criteria for being hunted and eliminated.

The rhino must be an older rhino that is no longer reproducing and is considered a threat to younger, healthier rhinos.

Rhinos are intensely territorial and will often kill each other in gruesome fights.

Knowlton is targeting one of four black rhinos at the top of the government list, the ones considered "high priority threats to the herd."'
