NJ Sports Betting: Six years later, it’s official in New Jersey
http://www.drf.com/news/new-jersey-s...aw-struck-down
A federal judge late on Thursday upheld a challenge to a law authorizing sports betting in New Jersey, siding with a handful of professional sports leagues that said the law violated a federal ban on the practice. The ruling, by U.S. District Court Judge Michael Shipp, is a setback to the state’s racetracks, which would have been allowed to offer sports betting along with the state’s casinos if the law was upheld. New Jersey is expected to appeal the decision, with the support of Gov. Chris Christie. |

Monmouth update
Relieing on legalized sports betting for the future.

I hope Monmouth realizes what they are getting into. There's quite a few bettors who may just go to sports and not return to racing.
|
So I had a derby party and missed the super by a nose when Wicked Strong nosed the Rat. Most of my non racing friends were shocked that a Super bet could pay 8000 dollars for a modest bet. racing needs to focus on the fact racing provides the big scores and winning 8K betting sports at 110 to win 100 is so much more difficult.

The guy is a sports bettor who has never showed an interest in the track. Absolutely floored that he made 5x his investment- And called me this week to find out if I was playing this weekend - Wants to learn how to handicap horses. Agree completely - A sports bettor that gets a taste of a big payout will at least show an interest in wanting to learn more - |

I say the same thing - I have no interest in a less than 1:1 odds return. |
When friends of mine want to make a bet (on some other matter) - the sports bettors always say "straight up?"
I reply "I am a horseplayer - you've got to give me odds." |

i think the meadowlands is working well and monmouth should follow suit. other ways and venues are needed for revenue to sustain these tracks. the slots will come one day. just a matter of time.

Christie comes through on Sports Betting; Monmouth, Freehold, ACRC, Meadowlands, Casinos OK'd to take action..
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nati...2168?cid=bitly ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie issued a directive Monday allowing his state's casinos and racetracks to offer sports betting without fear of criminal or civil liability. The governor said he took his cue from previous federal court rulings that found that nothing in New Jersey law prohibits the casinos and horse racing tracks from offering sports betting. His action is likely to be challenged in court by the professional and collegiate sports leagues that fought New Jersey's efforts to overturn a ban on sports betting in all but four states. That effort ended with the U.S. Supreme Court declining to hear the case. ASBURY PARK PRESS: http://www.app.com/story/news/politi...ting/15290363/ |
Pretty sickening reading this thread and then noticing all of the casino shutdowns since this was posted.
Maybe they can find a buyer for Revel. |

The states are running out of money yet still are increasing their spending so here is easy money for the states.... they are legalizing drugs now, why would anyone care about betting on sports? also I saw Adam Silver basically embracing sports betting as helpful to the NBA, he would not say that without some inkling as to what is going to happen. |

Hope I am wrong and yes everyone including me wants to see it come to fruition but Delaware was done this road years ago and we were all sure they would be booking bets.. |
Credit - the reason why illegal sportsbooks will never go out of business.
Why pay the Borgata $330 to win $300 when you can keep the money in your wallet and bet it with Bruno the Bookie? It will be successful, and am looking forward to my next trip to AC to see what platform they'll have. |
