JAZIL....Most Overrated horse in the history of horse racing....
I dont have any pp's in front of me so this is all off the top of my head....
here we go...Jazil beat a horrible group of horses to win the belmont, there might have been 2 other good horses in that whole field and they were bluegrass cat and high finance, where is bgc now, and for high finance there is a excuse everytime he runs for why he losses. Before the belmont he closed in the wood, on a very sloppy track, another horrible field, where is bob and john now, and i dont think anyone on here will argue that keyed entry is nothing more then a good sprinter, maybe miler. Back to the belmont now, on top of that being a bad field the race also fell apart, if i remember correctly bob and john set the pace in that race, and i also think the final time was very slow. Onto the current, the connections of Jazil say he will use a Aqueduct allowance as a prep for a stakes race, either the donn or the gulfstream park handicap, they said many time that they would have ran jazil and invasor in the donn, and they said the comeback was what they wanted. So according to the connections everything was going perfectly, so why is he running in another allowance race, a young grade 1 winner, who had this great prep at aqueduct, why not the donn or the gulfstream park handicap, i will tell you why, because the connections know this horse is nothing more then a decent closer who needs a perfect setup to win. I will also say this horse never wins a grade 1 or 2 again in his career, they might find a grade 3 with a bad field for him that he could possibly take down, but thats it. Im going out there on this post im sure alot of you guys are going to say im crazy and not agree with me, but this is my opinion of the horse, and i just thought i'd share it with everyone. Also i dont know if i mentioned this but i think he has a 0 percent chance to win tommorw. |

well the connections stated many times aqueduct, then stakes, not second at 1-5 at aqueduct and now another allowance because we know we cant win a stakes. I mean really if you really think about this race makes no since, he shouldn't need another race, and he has raced over this track already.

A lot of bluster above to say little. Jazil is an especially neat horse that you cleary have some irrational distate for.. If he never wins any kind of race ever again, he is a classic winner and will likely be a sire of note with his exceptional pedigree. He's come back from the same injury, a painful one at that, which ended Smarty Jones' career, and it's terrific to have him out running at 4. ![]() About as nicely put together a horse as you'll see.. And has a great temperment as well.. |
The hell are you doing up at 3:20 SLB..
|
Jazil is a deep deep closer type. His type dont win every time they set foot on track. One thing is for certain is that this horse is not a plodder who pass by tired rivals. Jazil has a mean turn of foot that is uncommonly seen day to day. I kind of like that he is getting one more race under him to prep for graded company. This horse will love going long in his next.

Also, it's not like Jazil is SO highly esteemed or SO much talked about to justify a post saying he is terribly over-rated. Jazil ran a creditable 4th in the Derby and won a Belmont vs the Derby 2nd place finisher. Nobody is calling him a monster or one for the ages. But I'm very glad to see him back for a 4-yr-old campaign. --Dunbar |
that's the thing-i haven't really seen anyone hyping the horse-or even rating him at all. he hasn't been around. there is interest in him, which is natural for a classic winner, and i'm also happy to see him back at four. he could turn out to be anything. but i'd say the majority of talk since last spring was about bernardini, invasor and lava man-with maybe a blurb or two about jazil once in a while.
|
I haven't really heard anyone overhyping this horse...but he has won a classic (regardless of what you might think of the field) he is well bred (out of a stakes winning mare) he has a good overall record of 9 2-4-0 with one of his unplaced efforts being his 4th in the derby...and most importantly HE IS STILL IN TRAINING AT 4....what's not to like?
![]() Better Than Honour on the rail...in the Demoiselle |
My buddy Chris loved him after that Wood effort...at the time, thought he was no better than a deep closer. Finished right where I thought he would in the Derby...did surprise me with his running style in the Belmont. Too bad he got hurt then...would have improved a lot if he continued to run last year. His return race was just find and the winner there (Take the Bluff) won back yesterday. If he gets the right set today, should have a big chance versus these. Give him a lot of credit, he's back...more than I can say for the three year old champ of last year!

The 2nd dam, Blush With Pride by Blushing Groom, was a KY Oaks winner, as well as winning 3 other grades and placing in three other Gr. I's... Third dam is Best in Show (Traffic Judge), a Comely winner like her grandaughter, and 1982 Broodmare of the Year.. Not only is Jazil more than useful or nice, he's important as he's carrying what looks to be an excellent sire's pedigree that can contribute to the stamina side in the shed. ![]() |
This thread is just another example of a baby crying in its crib.
If you ignore them they eventually stop. Frankly, I'm far more interested in the plight of Johannesburg Star. |
Yeah just knock the horse for running and not offer any insight as to who's going to beat him today. In the age where a horse can and will be retired for a random shart, it's nice to see a horse like Jazil on the track.
|
I mentioned in another thread that I do not like Jazil, but to say he is the most over rated horse out there is a bit much. However I do believe he will have trouble winning major races down the line just because of the setup he needs. Agree with BTW though. Johannesburg Star. Thats a story
|
I think he burns some more money today. He won't beat Corinthian, and he may not beat Dutrow's horse, either.

I was just thinking the same thing. How could a horse that many thought was a slow plodder before the Triple Crown series of 2006 be overrated? As Steve mentioned, his breeding is impeccable, and he's bred to run all day.
I can think of a few overrated horses out there; Jazil's not one of them. |
Incidentally, true to his Avatar, kasept is the Batman of Jazil! When an injustice is committed, Batman will be there!
Naturally you didn't know I was wearing my special Super B long thermal underwear. |

Part of the reason he is my favorite horse running is because he does look so pleasant and happy with the world and McLaughlin said he was a very trusting horse...he's got the qualities you look for in people really. I wish I got to meet him, lucky you! :) |

Fortunately, I have a 2:00 meeting scheduled in Aventura with nothing after. What to do... what to do. |

I think his chances of winning are slightly better than that. ;) |
This thread really is astounding. The poster found it necessary to start a whole new thread after making a casual mention in another thread. Why?
The first thing you need to be overrated is fanfare. Jazil doesn't have any. He is ranked 8th in Watchmaker Watch for older horses, with horses in front of him like Showing Up, Surf Cat, and Sun King. The poster attacks the quality of the Belmont field. Bluegrass Cat happened to exit that race and run pretty nicely at Monmouth. Sunriver was also a very useful horse who suffered a serious injury in the Jim Dandy. Steppenwolfer is no slouch, but the bottom line is Jazil beat everyone who showed up for the Belmont. He also outfinished 15 horses in the Derby, which is no small feat, especially making an inside move in a field of 20. I don't know the purpose of PointGiven1985's one-man crusade against Jazil, but to dismiss him and even come close to saying Corinthian is a much better horse is absolute lunacy. You want to talk about overrated, how about Corinthian. Good luck to those wagering today and I can guarantee you now I am rooting for Jazil even more. NT |
While I dont like Jazil's chances at the win today, I would give him far better than zero chance at the win.
I dont really agree that he is overrated. I dont think hes a great horse by any means (and i may be way off for saying so) but I wouldnt call him overrated. I do agree he won the Belmont against one of the worst triple crown fields assembled in recent history, but I think most people also see that. Barbaro and Bernardini were clearly heads and shoulders above the rest of the 3 year olds and their not being in this race really took the excitement out of it. Bluegrass Cat was no world beater and he was the only other horse who really did any running in this strange race. I think Jazil gets the respect he deserves but certainly not a ton more. |
The Belmont field in 2000 was infinitely worse than the Belmont in 2006. That slobberknocker won by Commendable was like a N1X Allowance race. I guess it had some similarities to the 2006 Belmont, but at least it didn't take Jazil an eternity to get around the Belmont oval like it did Commendable.

I thought both fields were horribly weak for a Triple Crown race. I'll give Bluegrass Cat credit, he did run an awesome race in the haskell. I was blown away by that race and rank it 3rd behind the Derby and Preakness for the best performances by 3 year olds this year. But Todd Pletcher horses do that frequently, run races that absolutely wow you. Who knows what could have come of Bluegrass Cat had he stayed healthy? Still wouldnt consider him all that much off of one very good performance.
|
How is Jazil overrated? I have never read one article or read one post on any boards where people were overhyping or were claiming he is the second coming. He got proper accolades winning the Belmont nothing crazy. He was never ever mentioned in the same breathe as Barbaro or Bernardini for that matter. He has alway been regarding as a dangerous deep closer. Nothing more nothing less. So I don't get this whole he is the most overrated horse in history. I can think of a couple other ones that come to mind in that category, Fug Peg comes to mind and out of last years 3 yr old class Brother Derek was the most overrated horse by far. That horse has done nothing to live up to hype he had going into the Derby or any race after that for that matter. He's turning out to be a mule.

I like Jazil for today. Corithian may do it, but I really root for Jazil. I like this horsie. I have said it before and I will say it again. He is a nice horse who will win some more races before he is done. He is not my new "RH10" love, but I do like the horse. I am glad that his connections decided to run him as a four year old.

There have been a number of less than stellar Triple Crown fields over the last several years. The 2000 and 2005 Belmont editions, as mentioned, were definitely weaker than was this year's Belmont.

You could make the case for the 2005 Belmont being weak as a field, but I think Afleet Alex was clearly a great horse and very unlucky not to have been a Triple Crown winner, as he was 5 lengths the best in the KY Derby.
Jazil is a good horse who was in the right place at the right time. If you run the 2006 Belmont 5 times, there is a good chance you get 4-5 different winners. If you run the 2005 Belmont Stakes 5 times, well I think its hard pressed to say that any of those would have been near Afleet Alex. He was a machine. |
