Why? I am so sorry GPK. I know how it feels. But you know, things happen for a reason and maybe there is something better for you out there. I know I wouldnt be where I am today if I wouldnt have gotten fired from my job.

Thanks EB...33 years old and this is the first time I have ever been fired from a job. It's all good...pick up and move on. The good news is it wasn't anything that I did. It really broke my bosses heart to have to tell me this morning...but the people that are the owners now are all heirs and have ZERO clue about the golf business.

Kev, are you ok? :(

GPK 06-19-2006 09:24 AM

The people on the board have no clue how to run a golf course. They just see me as the highest paid employer and just decide to get rid of me...

You will find a job in no time flat. My guess is that by next month we will see a post from you saying "New Job is AWESOME"

Scav 06-19-2006 09:32 AM

The exact reason above is why professional gambling is the best job of all time, you can't get fired, you can just go broke....

*note to self...call Colonial Downs to see If they want to get rid of Derby Bill*

oracle80 06-19-2006 09:35 AM

Kev,
Saratoga is the most awesome place on the earth the next three months. And there are a lot of golf courses here who may need someone til seasons end. Track opens soon. Gander and I and Steve are here. Go for it.

... been there, it happens, has nothing to do with your abilities, etc... all true. got an empty townhouse i'm working on these days. Dog, girl and you always welcome if you decide to travel. No Tampa these days... A couple Calder/Pompano doubleheaders would have to do. You'll land faster and better than you expect.

zippyneedsawin 06-19-2006 09:40 AM

Kev, Sorry to hear that, dude. :( I'm sure you'll land on your feet!

I think we are really related, dude. That sounds exactly like something I would say. Good luck to ya partner, I have been there too often myself, w/ a lot of my own doing, but I just keep on keepin on and always land on my feet. I have a feeling you'll do the same.

oracle80 06-19-2006 09:41 AM

Kev you now have offers to live in Fla and Saratoga. It could be worse!!!

GPK 06-19-2006 09:45 AM

Ok...to raise some $$$ for ole GPK...I'm now taking bets on the over/under for how long it takes me to find another job in the golf business.

My last day of work here is the last day of the month...anyone want to set the line????

GPK 06-19-2006 09:46 AM

OMG...Ya'll wanna hear something really F'ed up??? I just realized today would have been my 6 year anniversary had I still been married...

That bitch is still bringing me bad luck...

Gander 06-19-2006 09:52 AM

Kevin in Saratoga = Gander's marriage has less than 3 months at best.

But I'd love to have Kevin up here.

Kevin- I guess this means you will now be able to come up a few days earlier than planned and make opening day at Saratoga?

Wont cost you a penny more, you have places to stay, you know that. I have all the days off from work. Let me know

3 months my ass....3 weeks and we would be too broke to even pay attention. This really puts a damper on my summer plans with everyone. I can't go into a new job telling them when I can't work right away.

Tim until Jess finally says to get out, my pullout couch might be more feasible. lol. I set the over under on your marraige at two years. Hang in there, you have another 13 months to go.

Gander 06-19-2006 10:01 AM

Well I liked 4 horses yesterday and didnt play one of them:
Tuwani, Little Buttercup, King Glacken and In Certain Cirlces. They all ran off the board. I got that going for me.

See me, I know I'm in trouble. The FIRST thing Stacey said as we were leaving Colonial Downs on Saturday was "When can we come back."
I couldn't get on my knees and propose fast enough...lol

Hey Kevin you remember Screech from that show Saved By The Bell? Well, they are going to foreclose on his home if he does not come up with some cash so he is now selling a shirt that says on the front Screech holding a sign saying "Save My House". On the back it says "I paid $15 to save Screech's House".

Ok so here is my idea - Kevin come up with a shirt, say "Help me make my living betting the horses" Hell I don't know but you get my drift.

here is a link, hope is brings a laugh on a bummer day

afew very nice offers on the board..sent to ,gander, ora...thats a great thing you have done...you will win many photos ...good karma...

GPK 06-19-2006 10:40 AM

Thanks to the offers from everyone. I know they are heart felt and if I need to take anyone up on them, I will comfortable doing so. Also, thanks to everyones thoughts and prayers. Needless to say, I have experienced a wide variety of emotions this morning.

I have been in the golf business for 17 years in the southeastern VA/northeastern NC area. I feel confident that I have forged a solid reputation in my line of work. I will dearly miss living at the beach, but things happen. Almost 1 year ago I was laying in the middle of a field for dead, but I survived that and this will be a piece of cake compared to that. GPK will bounce back.

oracle80 06-19-2006 10:42 AM

Get your ass up here. Tim or I will pick you up at the airport, its no biggie. Screw it, you loved it here when you visited. No doubt a local course here would hire you, 3-4 month gig while you make new plans for the future. Then theres the track, lol, as an additional hook. Scram out of there.

Downthestretch55 06-19-2006 10:42 AM

Good luck Kev!

notyep59 06-19-2006 10:47 AM

kev, rotten luck man, but you'll end up fine. maybe find a course here in va. also wanted to say it was a pleasure meeting you and stacie and the kids. let me know if there's anything i can do to help.

slotdirt 06-19-2006 10:52 AM

kev, I hope this means you'll be spending slightly more time up at Colonial during the meet? There is always an upside to everything, like seeing awesome turf racing more often.

Kev, I am here for you no matter what happens. Keep your chin up... you will find something better in no time.

boldruler 06-19-2006 11:01 AM

Don't worry, another job always comes along. Whatever you do, don't take an office job. Some pay great, but they are crap compared to working outside. If you are the guy with the bad back you should consider moving into the golf course maintenace jobs. My friend's father took care of a course in NY his entire life and he loved it and was doing it in his 70's. Don't know what they pay is, but it seemed like a great life.
