This is my dog Duke. I found him on the street almost 13 years ago. I found him about 3 blocks from Hollywood Park back in July of 1994.

I finally got some good pictures of him last week.

Very cute. Never found something that good at the track before. Lucky guy.

He is the sweetest, friendliest dog in the world. He loves everybody. He is somewhere between 13 1/2 and 14 1/2 years old.

GPK 02-05-2007 08:01 AM

Richi...hows he doing? I know the last time you and I spoke on the phone, he was ill.

I took a day off yesterday and met my Mother halfway between her house and mine to finally get my dog back....so all is well im my world now that I have my baby girl again.

Gander 02-05-2007 08:06 AM

Beautiful dog Rupert. Amazing what you find in Inglewood.

He seems like he is doing fine now. I think the vet misdiagnosed him. I think it was just an acute kidney problem, rather than a chronic one. I'm going to take him back to the vet in a couple of days and they will re-do the tests.

His appetite is great. I'm pretty sure he is fine now, but I won't know for sure until later in the week.

When I first found him, I didn't even realize how beautiful he was. He was kind of dishevelled and he was very skinny. He was full grown but he only weighed about 45 pounds. He was somewhere between 1 and 2 years old. He weighs 60 pounds now.

Gander 02-05-2007 08:25 AM

He looks very happy, lucky for him you went to the track that day.

Richi: DON'T take him back to the same vet,for sure! I'm PM'ing you a great vet!

SCUDSBROTHER 02-05-2007 10:58 PM

I'm not going to get a dog again until I get married. It's too big of a responsibility having a dog when you live alone.

I'm going to take him to VCA this time. I have more faith in their lab than my current vet. VCA has all the best equipment and technology.

I wish I was a cat person... they drive me bonkers. I love having a dog because they crave your attention. Most cats don't give a shiat about you. LOL

Buffymommy 02-06-2007 09:36 AM

He is adorable! :)

paisjpq 02-06-2007 09:52 AM

Rupert your dog is beautiful...I love old dogs...I have a lab that is 11 that acts like he is 2...

Dunbar 02-07-2007 03:10 PM

Great looking dog, Rupert.

My handle, "Dunbar", comes from a dog I had for 10 years and adored. (I named the dog after a character in Catch-22). I made several cross-country trips with Dunbar--he was darn good company!

My name is after my beagle named Buffy. :) Aren't we all suckers for our doggie babies?

aka....Ms. Fuzzy Nubbins

I ain't intelligent enough to think of 4 different names for my baby girl....so one will have to do.

Buffy, the original Dunbar was a beagle mix. (Had a little shepherd in him, too.) I've had a soft spot for beagles ever since. No shortage of personality in that breed.

I'm very sad. I had to put my dog to sleep yesterday. He was diagnosed with lymphoma about 6 weeks ago and they told me that he only had another month or two. He actually held up very well for about the first month or so after he was diagnosed. But he started to deteriorate badly the last week, especially the last 24 hours. He was so weak yesterday that he no longer had the strength to walk or to eat.

I still can't believe he's gone. I had him for practically 13 years. He was a huge part of my life. It's so strange when I walk into my living room and he's not there. It will take a long time to get used to.

Coach Pants 05-21-2007 05:29 PM

:(

It's like losing a brother.

timmgirvan 05-21-2007 05:31 PM

Sorry Richi...you had him for a good long time though! Hope you feel better, man.

golfer 05-21-2007 05:32 PM

My condolences, Rupert. My advice, from personal experience, take some time, then get yourself another "best friend".

skippy3481 05-21-2007 05:33 PM

Sorry about your dog man. It's always tough losing someone that shared such a big part of your life with you.

DerbyCat 05-21-2007 05:51 PM

So sorry to hear about your loss, not sure anything we say can help with your pain but know that everyone here at DT that reads this post has you in their thoughts and prayers...

RIP Duke

Danzig 05-21-2007 05:54 PM

------------

I read back through this.

Anyone who would take in a stray doggie will always rate very high on my very, very short list of board buddies.

You will do what you want to do,but no doggie will ever take his place.

That's the way it should be.I wish you well.

Rupert Pupkin 05-21-2007 06:31 PM

Thanks to all of you for your kind words.

pdrift1 05-21-2007 06:36 PM

so sorry to hear this rupert.its just like losing a loved one , just remember the good times, take care roger

FGFan 05-21-2007 06:37 PM

I'm new here, but I'm very sorry you lost your friend. At least you did get some pics of him, it would have been even harder if you didn't get those pics.

I have lots of dogs but the ones that always pull on my heart are my rescues. I have a poor guy here that was bounced 21 times before he got to me, now he's on my couch, he was so lost in his head when I got him. Now he's full of life and sillyness, and recently went to be the live exhibit at the state musuem as the State dog, one of the symbols of Louisiana.
There's nothing in this world like the loyalty of a dog, I'm sorry you lost your buddy, Duke.

paisjpq 05-21-2007 06:40 PM

Oh man rupert I am so sorry, there is nothing worse than having to say goodbye to a great friend.

FGFan 05-21-2007 06:43 PM

For Rupert, and in memory of Duke. Not everyone will take in a stray and love him for 13 years, may you have fond memories, he must have loved you very much.

Hope the link comes up, PM me if it doesn't.

GPK 05-21-2007 06:53 PM

Richi....sorry to hear bro. I could tell when talking to you on the phone you were incredibly fond of him.

RIP Duke.

31lengths 05-21-2007 07:04 PM

I am so sorry.
