What is your fav. recent race???

Mine would have to be the Florida Derby back on April 1st of 06. What a battle between Barbaro and Sharp Humor down the stretch, a really exciting race.

randallscott35 01-30-2007 08:59 PM

Any race Discreet Cat is in.

POINTGIVEN1985 01-30-2007 09:02 PM

That was a great race. Maybe my favorite as well.

POINTGIVEN1985 01-30-2007 09:06 PM

....." but gary stevens has something left with commentator" GREAT CALL

The Indomitable DrugS 01-30-2007 09:08 PM

I know three of my all-time favorite races to watch were run at Belmont Park in 2003.

They being Ghostzapper's 3yo debut in an alw race and the TVG feed of his '03 Vosbugh win. Artie Schiller's maiden win in a turf sprint was also a race I love to watch.

saucon17 01-30-2007 09:09 PM

This years Just A Game Handicap when Pommes Frites look like
she had the race won just when Gorella put in an explosive late
run to get up in the final strides to nip Pommes Frites.

Sightseek 01-30-2007 09:09 PM

Any race with Saint Liam, even in that losing performance against Commentator. I nearly did cartwheels after the classic. :)

POINTGIVEN1985 01-30-2007 09:10 PM

all of these races are great....
bellamy road in the wood is scary good, the call bye durkin makes me watch it alot

Artie's maiden win should be in a time capsule.

I loved that one as well. Bellamy was cantering like he was in a hunter pace...what a disappointment that we didn't see MORE!

POINTGIVEN1985 01-30-2007 09:12 PM

how can i see arties maiden win ? hes one of my favorite horses ever and his maiden win is the only race of his that i have never seen

POINTGIVEN1985 01-30-2007 09:14 PM

this years whitney was also a good race another 5 yards and sun king is clear

What a 4 months Nick had. Every horse in the barn ran amazing.

I disagree, Invasor is a knock out type of fighting horse. He didn't win a lot but he wasn't going to lose either.

POINTGIVEN1985 01-30-2007 09:16 PM

another great race was a few years back now the test it was you and carson hollow i think im going to go back now and watch it, but if i recall one of them was in real tight on the rail for the length of the stretch

Scav 01-30-2007 09:17 PM

Tiznow's Classic wins, Powerscourt's Million, Storming Home's Million, Gorella's Beverly D, Discreet Cat's MAIDEN win because I hit that HARD

and finally

MY LAST WINNER

I was at Belmont Park for all 3, and I wasn't going to respond because GZ's 3YO debut was possibly my personal favorite of the last 5 years and most people haven't seen it so they wouldn't be able to understand. I still can't find a video of it anywhere, it was sick.

Artie Schiller happens to be my personal favorite grass horse of all time, and the maiden race was a good share of that reason.

Sightseek 01-30-2007 09:18 PM

BTW & DrugS hate me enough already but....tops this year was Jazil's Belmont.

I don't know if you could classify it as 'recent' but Sightseek's retirement race was special to me as well.

POINTGIVEN1985 01-30-2007 09:22 PM

pine island winning the alabama was nice for me, because i had the exacta 25times with teammate, it was one of my bigger hits ever i think teammate was 17-1 or something long the exacta was around 80

KirisClown 01-30-2007 09:24 PM

I know most people think poorly of Smuggler, but it was very fullfilling seeing her win the Mother Goose and CCA Oaks...

Azeri -vs- Sightseek in the 2004 Go For Wand a few years ago was pretty good too...

Well, you are the only one I know who had him on top, without any disclaimers "needs a hot pace", etc.

It must be good to be a goo-goo :p

ELA 01-30-2007 09:28 PM

Favorite recent race? That's easy . . . the last one I won, LOL.

Seriously, besides being involved in the game, and being a bettor, I am a truly passionate fan. What I mean is that I've seen some really great races and I see them often. Everyday hard hitting claimers battling down the stretch.

I think my real favorite recent race is Carson Hollow/You in the Test at the Spa. As Tom Durkin said -- it was a race that didn't deserve a loser.

I'll have you know those were capping skills that landed me with the winning ticket that day! :p

Intercontinental in the F/M Turf...I had that one too tough guy! Loved that mare as well.

Linny 01-30-2007 09:31 PM

Bellamy Road's Wood. Spooky Mulder's Inner dirt win in November. Discreet Cat's allowance win in Aug. Most of Gorella's races.

hockey2315 01-30-2007 09:37 PM

Ghost Zapper vs. St. Liam in the Wood
Discreet Cat's Cigar Mile
This year's derby and BC classic

ManilaRose 01-30-2007 09:38 PM

Ouija Board '06 F & M Turf and Gorella in the Just A Game.

On a lighter side, I didn't see this in person but I'm sure when Zippy Chippy raced the lead-off hitter of the AAA Baseball Columbus Clippers it was very entertaining.:D

AeWingnut 01-30-2007 09:45 PM

Sarava

NTamm1215 01-30-2007 09:48 PM

The 2005 Beverly D was a great race with Angara getting up to win. Angara's allowance score at Keeneland in April of 2005 was terrific as well. I think Kurt Becker said, "And Angara with a breath-taking move to take it."
That it was.

MEGAHERTZ...what a joy to watch!

Zaf 01-30-2007 09:53 PM

I think it was a dog race from Flager when 3 dogs wiped out in the first turn :D

I have tape of all them.....if I ever get the time, and figure out how, I will put them on youtube.

That was the Rochester Red Wings lead-off hitter.

He lost.

mark2061mn 01-30-2007 10:52 PM

barbaro's three turf races at 2 (well, one was jan 1st of his 3yo year).

i must have watched each of those 20 times.

Rochester? Really? Are you sure he didn't have a double header and race Columbus' as well? Haha. I'm sure you're right, the only thing I knew for sure was that he lost.:)

Cajungator26 01-31-2007 10:10 AM

Bellamy Road's win in the Wood and Barbaro's Florida Derby battling with Sharp Humor in the stretch.

paisjpq 01-31-2007 10:11 AM

that race of Spooky's 2 back...when he looked totally beaten and came back to win.

Holland Hacker 01-31-2007 11:36 AM

Easily the 2006 Whitney Handicap with Sun King gaining on Invasor. Also the 2005 Belmont Stakes. Every time I see the move that Afleet Alex made turning for Home I get shivers down my spine.

That horse would have won the Triple Crown if he wasn't so close to those blazing early fractions.

SniperSB23 01-31-2007 11:38 AM

I'm having a tough time thinking of any better than the 2005 and 2006 Whitneys.
