Empir Racing to hold town meeting
 

Maybe someone from our New York operations can attend this town hall. The representative can represent the Derby Trail Forum.

If you go to the home page they have an interesting poll at TT's, thus far, visiting the paddock is outscoring watching from the rail and betting as what people most enjoy about racing.

Empire Racing has as much chance of taking over the franchise as Derby Trail. They have been the gang that couldn't shoot straight from day one and are basically attempting to take as much money OUT of racing as possible as well as guaranteeing certain members SUBSTANTIAL payouts ( a million bucks ) should they even get the franchise.

One of the best things to come out of this process so far is their immediate dismissal.

All that does is show who is going to their site.


How exactly will racing survive with those paddock visitors that are uninterested in racing. I am on pins and needles waiting for Jeff Perlee and Richard Bomze to explain this.

by offering pony rides in the paddock and photo opps with the stars (both equine and human)...expand all of the pomp and fluff and do not maintain the substance...
maybe there should be an opportunity for the fans to pet the runners before a race too...

I wasn't saying that it was a positive or ground-breaking poll, just that I was surprised by the results and you're right, it reflects who is visiting the site.

I heard about a meeting next week, Wednesday maybe. I don't know when or where? I'll ask around.

I don't know that riding in a golf cart with shrek and donkey is what most tourists have in mind for the summer @ saratoga...:rolleyes:

On-track Strip Clubs would be huge.

How about the "Godiva Stakes"? Female jockeys, no silks.

You know how they have those trivia games at bars and you are able to change your answer for lesser points during the game for each question. They should do that in racing. You have up until the final furlong to change your bet for lesser odds. So if the horse is 2-1 at post, and you decide to change your bet with 1 furlong to go, you now get 3/5 on the horse. Now that would be cool.

Wasn't there some website in Europe that allowed you to bet while the race was being run? I believe that was tied into the race fixing allegations.

I have no idea. But I want this to happen. Keep in mind, you dont get your orginal bet back.

You dont think this is already happening? Could definetely explain the way horses that often have big leads in the stretch go down in odds :cool:

Well this isnt fair. The question is - what do you like most about live racing? And when I go to the track, I like to visit the paddock and watch from the rail. The betting part is what I least like because of lines and the machines not accepting my voucher or the teller is deaf and cant hear me.

They don't have cash/betting cards at the tracks you attend? voucher slips are too easy to wrinkle or lose. The only thing that sucks is they look like all of the other cards in your wallet and you end up handing them to someone thinking it's your credit card. :p

No they dont Sightseek. I wish they did, but they don't. If they do, I dont know about it. I like the voucher system. Maybe it is because I am comfortable with it.

I like the smell of horses, even the stuff that comes out of their behinds. I love to see a sweaty animal after a race. I like to see the little guys running back to the jockey room to change, its hilarious.
WHat I dont like is having to pay $6.75 for a Heineken draft served by a 70 year old man. "Wazz up wit dat bro? Word to your mudda."
If NYRA has to charge that much, the least they could do is have a pleasant college or high school girl serve it :cool:

At Saratoga you could go down to the concession stand inside around Section T and have your draft served to you by the bearded lady. Just hope she doesn't have her top button undone cause she's got a hairy chest too.

How about the miserable guy who sells vouchers in the Jim Dandy bar with the circa 1960 haircut? Just the guy you want to see at 5:45 stuck a grand trying to get out at Del Mar.

The meeting is Jan 17, 7pm at the Holiday Inn, B'way.
