My god, what a long list...sad roll call :(

hoovesupsideyourhead 12-31-2006 09:32 AM

that really is a sad list..rip..

my miss storm cat 12-31-2006 09:44 AM

It's heartbreaking.

If I've left anyone out, please feel free to add them.....

They ALL deserve to be remembered one last time.

my miss storm cat 12-31-2006 10:07 AM

I left out...

Circle the World
General Meeting
Al Nitak (Nad al Sheba)
Onieda County
Classic Partner (Sha Tin)

paisjpq 12-31-2006 10:20 AM

Schematic...one of my favorite mares, died foaling.
Percipient...died foaling

Ghostzapperfan 12-31-2006 10:27 AM

Wow. Thanks for posting this, as I agree that we all need to remember each and every one of them. They died for our sport, and respect should be paid to each and every one of them...

witchdoctor 12-31-2006 10:38 AM

You can add Lively One to that list.

DerbyCat 12-31-2006 11:08 AM

Wow, I hadn't heard about Adreamisborn... that one really saddens me (just as much as LITF) :( I loved watching that horse run at Bay Meadows...

I found this page: http://flyingfilly.com/good-bye_2006.htm that lists pretty much all confirmed deaths this year... amazingly long and depressing list...

Let's all hope that the list for 2007 is much, much shorter...

SCUDSBROTHER 12-31-2006 11:16 AM

How did Labeeb die? That was the horse Eddie D. had issues with.Talented, but a real headcase.

All I've found about his passing is that he had broken blood vessel which led to severe internal bleeding... sad end for an amazing horse.

Great, but very sad link. Thanks for posting...

Let's hope 2007 is kinder. All should be remembered.

Read the link on Up an Octave... SAD, SAD, SAD

Personal favorites

PINE ISLAND, LOST IN THE FOG - Just love those horses that fight no matter what.

Bob Lewis - I still run the tape of the 97 Derby where he was shown pulling Silver to the finish line. That program was getting worn out.

Thank you for posting, as well.

At this point, I'll focus on the runners for "next year."

And hope the sport can do the best it can to protect all of it's athletes as we move forward.

It's a great sport.

wac 12-31-2006 10:29 PM

There were many more deaths reported, but the site owner (for obvious reasons) won't post them without a link.

If you check out the rest of the site there are many positive stories, too.

Let's hope so.....

As someone else said there were many, many more. These were off the top of my head.

Rest in peace, all of you.

Mystery Island had to be euthanized after yesterday's race at Santa Anita. RIP, your last run was a good one.

What happened? I thought I saw where Pedroza got off him after the race, but couldn't tell anything else. Link??

KirisClown 01-01-2007 04:31 PM

Add PASEANA to that list too...

So sad.

ArlJim78 01-02-2007 10:59 PM

I wanted to acknowledge the passing of another one that touched me personally.

His name is Wetchamp and he had to be euthanized on 12/30/06 at Turfway Park.

According to the claiming price he wasn't a high class horse by any means. However, his drive and determination and courage and will to be a winner were plainly evident to me in his final race.

I won't soon forget him, or the way he kept trying.

May he rest in peace...

Echo Farm 01-03-2007 05:15 AM

I don't understand why the track vet let Wetchamp race. This is a quote from the chart:
Quote:

WETCHAMP flipped in paddock, reserved early, advanced wide on the turn then broke down and fell when moving to the lead in deep stretch.

Isn't this the race where another horse went down due to Wetchamp? The TVG guys were saying after the race that both horses were fine. Obviously he wasn't fine. Sorry to hear, RIP.

If this was the same race, is the other horse ok?

WOW! I wasn't even aware of that paddock incident. Maybe something was wrong with him before to cause the paddock incident, or maybe that is what caused the breakdown? Of course we'll never know. With perfect hindsight of course it would have been better if they would have scratched him.

Actually another horse nearly collided with Wetchamp and sorta had to gallop over him, I didn't actually see him go down and I have no reason to believe that he wasn't okay. Its a miracle the rider of Wetchamp wasn't hurt, he went down so hard.

Battaglia also came on and said that Wetchamp was up and fine and apperently just winded. It seemed to good to be true and it was.

Echo Farm 01-03-2007 01:09 PM

The chart is still available online. I have saved it for when the equibase becomes stale.

http://www.equibase.com/premium/eqbP...&RACE=4&BorP=B

I have been recording every breakdown, "pulled up vanned off" etc since the first of December at all US & Canadian tracks, but don't save the charts. Someone has been posting most of the breakdowns on Pedigreequery.com, but doesn't get them all. I get mine from the charts every morning. If I weren't on dialup, I'd probably do more. I don't catch all of them, because sometimes horses are eased, walked off or just eased, and may have an fatal injury that isn't reported.

Does anyone know what ever became of Chiselling? He is Half to Empire Maker, Chester House, Honest Lady, & Decarchy. He was due to stand in South Africa, but was found to have EPM in late 2004, no other information has shown up on the web, and inquiries to Juddmonte were unanswered.

What a very uplifting thread. You really know how to cheer up the depressed. You must be great at kid's parties.

kentuckyrosesinmay 01-03-2007 03:24 PM

Thanks for posting this my miss storm cat. All of these great horses DO need to be remembered.

cmorioles 01-03-2007 04:41 PM

Didn't any people from the racing industry die in 2006?

Sorry if you have a problem with it.....

Like others have said, they all deserve to be remembered.

They're the soul of this game we all love..... they're not tremendous machines..... they give and give and many of us mourn when they are no longer with us.

So I choose to say goodbye one last time, especially to the claimers that most people have forgotten. Horses like Go Bye Bye, Treasure Colony and Capecloakanddagger..... horses that were ordinary to some but special to me.

I don't want to be rude here but perhaps next time there's a thread you see as pointless you can simply stop reading it and move on to another.....

Yes, a lot of good people died. Derby Cat posted this link back on #9 it lists People and Horses http://flyingfilly.com/good-bye_2006.htm

There are also a lot of uplifting stories and racing information and results there.

Gander, I'm putting together a story for them about some of the Geldings and Horses that have stuck around more than a season or two. Of course, Arromanches will be included.

Angelic Morgan L
Gringa Hug

They were two of the casualties at Arlington Park this past meet.

The latter really stung, she was one of my favorites -- a fast closing sprinter, my very very favorite kind of horse.

I don't often participate in these Angles threads -- but in the spirit of GPK resurrecting his license plate thread from 2006...

I would like to use this opportunity to 'say goodbye' to a very special young lady (who I never met) that was fatally gunned down in a Colorado movie theater over the weekend.

Micayla Medek, 23, worked as a Subway "sandwich artist" -- "I do everything lol," she added on her Facebook page.

A graduate of William C. Hinkley High School in Aurora, Medek took classes at Community College of Aurora through last fall.

"I'm a simple independent girl who's just trying to get her life together while still having fun," she wrote on Facebook.

She attended the midnight showing of the new Batman movie with friends and was wounded, family members told the Los Angeles Times.

But nearly 20 hours passed before authorities confirmed to the family that she was one of the 12 killed in Friday's theater shooting.
:(

Micayla Medek sounds EXACTLY like the type of girl that tosses on a 5th piece of provalone cheese on your $5 footlong sub and doesn't bother to try and up your order by adding a drink or chips when she rings you out.

She was probably even the type of girl whose smile disarmed you at the counter as you look at sando board, trying to eye up the monthly specials.

And if you caught her on a good day, perhaps when she was floating on cloud nine because she got a B+ on one of her papers, she would throw in two free white chip Mac cookies with a 'you're one of my favs' wink.

She is who we lost in this tragedy, folks. She is irreplaceable.

Do yourself a favor today and buy a $5 footlong for lunch in honor of Micayla and see if they'll offer you a free cookie in return.

If it's stingy ass Mahmoud or Habib ringing you out instead of one of the chicks -- you be sure to remind him that 'It's what Micayla would have wanted!'

Goodbye, Micayla. Fly with the angles, sweet girl.
