Lennon fans freezing their toes off in NYC
Not nearly as monumental as Pearl Harbor (though certainly a cultural touchstone in its own right), today is the anniversary of John Lennon's death, and, as usual, clusters of fans have gathered at the Dakota and Strawberry Fields to pay homage. I admire their dedication, but holy toledo, it's cold out today!
Did anyone see the documentary on him that was out this summer? Was it good? |
And the follow-up-- after thinking, "What knuckleheads, going out to Strawberry Fields in the fracking cold," I happened to be at 72nd and CPW for a lunch date with ten minutes to kill, so guess where I wandered over to?
Knuckleheads. Takes one to know one, I guess. |
Genuine Risk,
I always liked John L. "Imagine" and "give Peace a Chance" were two of my favorites. Anyway, good to know you got home ok...cold as can be here in the Catskills. I came across this today and at first thought the guy was in Iraq. I have no idea where he is...but if anyone can figure out where he is, I'm sure he'd appreciate some help. http://www.freewebs.com/pleasehelp1/ |
was 19 this morning. thank goodness for fireplaces.
will be mid 60's next week. that's the south for ya. |
lennon was a communist.
anyone who mourns his death is a communist sympathizer or worse. if I was NYPD commissioner, Id arrest everyone of those freaks and at least put a scare into them. just beat them a bit or deprive them of sleep, but something to straighten them out. Repent |

Have you heard the new "LOVE" album (have I asked this before)? I think George Martin and his son did a terrific job on it. |

I've heard a few songs but not the whole album...what I have heard though is great:) |

what are you reporting? why, they're lennon fans. lock them up and throw away the key! |
Allah Akbar, repent.

The greatest hypocracy is Repent claims he's a Pearl Jam fan.
They are as outspoken a band against the current criminal administration as has ever existed. They have a song mocking Dubya that Eddie Vedder even wears a Bush mask while singing it. But, Repent is a big fan of theirs. And, apparantly, John Lennon was a communist ( oh yeah, I forgot, Pearl Jam even plays one of his songs..." Gimme Some Truth " ). |

i dont know who you are or what you know about Pearl Jam, but while nothing you typed is wrong, there is more to the band than that. same with Audioslave. they hate President Bush. Im guessing Billy Corgan might not fall in line with all my political beliefs, but that does not stop me from appreciating his artistic abilities. what made lennon cross that line from being an artist with political views to a communist is that he actively provided aid and comfort to the enemy(plus, he just flat out sucked as a musician). You dont see Ed Vedder or Chris Cornell hanging out with that nutcase in North Korea. they probably hate him more than President Bush. You can call me hypocritical if you want, but I know where I stand and my conscience is clear. the only artists that probably believe what I believe politically are country singers and they do much more harm to our country than Ed Vedder's useless rantings. i can assure you of that. So which is the important part? Not that either one has any particular credibility...I am just trying to understand why you are so angry ( about this particular man )...especially on the anniversary of him being brutally murdered in cold blood. I understand your confusion with Pearl Jam..... they sing of angst, as you do, but sorry if I can't help but see the hypocracy in you claiming to love a band that wears their politics as openly as five-against-one. You will certainly " scream your lungs out til it fills this room ". |

you dont know me dude. nor should you from conversing with me on a horse racing internet forum. this is not life. Im not self loathing. I do what I want to when I want to. i dont answer to anyone b/c Im fortunate enough to where I dont have to. Im not saying im a great person or anything like that. but I am who I want to be. You know that Corgan line, "whatever I wanted to be, I already am"? thats it. ppl are not the ppl they want to be b/c they accept responsibilities in life that they do not want or never intended to. my only responsibility is to myself. enough about me. thats not the point of this thread. stand up for my beliefs? what you think I am going to get my as* kicked while voting a straight Republican ticket? not all that dangerous. I believe in a smaller governement with less tax funded programs. I believe in self responsibility. not all that dangerous positions. Repent |
Pillow its tough to know when you are serious and when you are not.
but if you think lennon and the beatles can artistically compare to what Pearl Jam has been doing since the early 1990's, you are out of your mind. maybe you should listen to Vs, Ten, and the latest album again. Repent |

the quoted part is the part that many of us will agree with, even me. don't pretend like that's what you stand for. you have repeatedly stood for elimination of those unlike you under guise of the "conservative movement" when 95% of conservatives would toss you aside in a second, realizing that you speak for no one -- not even "conservatives" |

You love to stir the pot don't ya? I do agree that you can appreciate someone without 100% agreement...if I waited for that I'd never vote or listen to any music, watch any movies or TV...I like Frank Sinatra's music but couldn't stomach his politics, right now...I'll take Juliette and the Licks over any band out there and I don't even give a second thought to her religious affiliation when I watch her on stage... |
I don't know which is more absurd;
that Lennon and The Beatles do not compare to Pearl Jam or that a person that believes in smaller government would vote for Republicans. |

you obviously were not around on the thoroughbredtimes forum. Im more than familar with the beatles and their socially destructive propaganda. and no Im not going to listen to that crap ever again. heard it when I was a child and it p*ssed me off. Repent |
Quote:
Can I assume you're not a fan of the Sex Pistols either? |
Quote:
exactly. Im sure there are country music singers with political beliefs that are somewhat similar to mine. but Im not going to listen to that crap. I dont care if they are the greatest ppl in the world. Repent |
Quote:
lol, never listened to them. Im kind of selective when it comes to music. a smart man once told me there are 2 things in this world to be particular about- music and women. that was good advice. Repent |

Well I do like Willie Nelson....and a few others. |
