Declan's Moon Looks Good on Track
 

Declan's Moon looks like his old self in the post parade today. He didn't look like himself at all in the post parade at Del Mar. I expect him to run a big race today. I think he will win.

You cant bet this race. I hope he wins, but I dont think he will. I think Turnbolt will win.

Crickey, Sailor's Sunset takes it. Declan was third.

He ran better than Turnbolt. He looked loaded for a second, then just flattened out.

Vic Stauffer is now plugging in "down the Cushion track" into his racecalls. Absolutely brutal. That guy is the second worst besides Battaglia

dooley is wearing thin also..........and declans is done..

DM had no real excuses. He wasn't going to beat the winner no matter what. He may have had a shot for 2nd if he would have dropped another 5 lengths back. He doesn't want to be up near the lead when they're going :44 or whatever they went today. But even if he dropped about 6 lengths back, he would have had no shot at winning the race. He may have had a shot to get second.

I'm pissed off because Sailors Sunset was my second choice. I even played a one way exacta DM/SS. But I bet nothing to win on SS. I figured that Premium Saltine would be up there early pushing SS. If I would have known that SS would get an easy lead, I would have definitely bet something to win on him at that price.

Thats not the first time Jon Court has won on the lead with an inferior horse. Ill tell you what, I dont really like him, but when hes on the lead he is VERY tough to pass. He gets a lot of run.

Dooley is a great caller, Stauffer is a douchebag.

I don't think DM is done. His best distance is not 6 furlongs. When he runs the half in :44, it's just too fast for him. He flattens out. I think you will see a different horse when he runs long. When he runs long, he will be able to run the half in :46 3/5 or even :47.

I wasn't fond of how high he was carrying his head in the stretch... I wonder why they haven't stretched him out yet? :confused:

Taking nothing away from DM, but his sire has to be one of the most over-rated stallions in Kentucky... :rolleyes:

this race from what i read was a means to an end. he will be stretching out, this distance obviously not his cup of tea.
BUT, racing may no longer be his cup of tea. we shall see...

I disagree - I think he's underrated, actually - he sires 9% SW from foals, which is very good (especially considering Malibu Moon ran only twice and presumably didn't get particularly good mares) and his AEI is very solid.

declan is by malibu moon, he's by ap indy.

Good God I agree with Betsy. Nobody was going to go with winner today and Declan's Moon is not done racing.

He either bled, displaced or entrapped.
When they run with their heads up like that they are trying to get air.

DM came out of the race fine. He didn't bleed or anything. He just got tired being so close to that fast pace. He doesn't want to run like that. He wasn't going to beat the winner any way, but he would have probably run much better if he would have been another 4-5 lengths back.

BETSY!!! I know you're the world's biggest Indy supporter, and he deserves recognition in becoming a sure bet as a sire of sires, but Declan's Moon... really???

His best runner is the talented Malibu Mint but his other standout is Declan's Moon who hasnt been able to reach top form in two years!

When 4 of his top 10 earners of the year are under 100k and only two are above 200k, do you really think he deserves a 40k fee? He is over-priced and over-hyped... most his stakes winners are not of much quality... he would be a good bet at 20k, but not 40k. In his defense, he does a good job on his mares... but all things considered, 40k is steep for a hit and miss sire who seems to be getting a lot of second tier track stakes winners and many of his foals have soundness issues.

He's very much a "Belong to Me" type.
