Nicely played Digger and the only player to break a 100. Good try IH.

JolyB 03-14-2023 11:28 AM

Well played Digger. Nothing better than ending the day with a cold trifecta!

cal828 03-14-2023 12:51 PM

Uh-oh, I think I see a trip to Laurel on the horizon. Don't really have anything against Laurel as a venue except that it's sometimes hard to get pps since there are so many Marylandbreds there, but it's ok, I might have to breakdown and spend a whole dollar at Brisnet for the pps. Have to watch your dollars in the present banking environment. Two of the banking entities I trade with seem to be on the shaky list. Thankfully, I also have a few dollars in a local credit union in case of emergency. Hope this banking thing blows over shortly and proves to be a tempest in a teapot. The whole thing seems to be another example of Murphy's Law.

It's going to be tough to get focused on our contest this Saturday with all of the distractions of March Madness beginning in earnest today. As is always the case, filling out the brackets is a real challenge, even while you know in your heart that by the end of the day they will be shredded to bits by an upset that you never considered. Let the Madness begin.

Yeh Except One Important Lil Tidbit To Remember ~
~~~~~~~ Not Every Cat 🐱 Is Into Basketball ;)
So, Purrrrrrhaps That May Make This Cat 🐱 Purrr :)
JolyB 03-16-2023 10:06 AM
Oh, there are a lot of cats in the round of 64, i.e. Houston Cougars, Arizona Wildcats, Kansas State Wildcats, Kentucky Wildcats, Missouri Tigers, Northwestern Wildcats, Memphis Tigers, Auburn Tigers, Penn State Nittany Lions, Pittsburgh Panthers, College of Charleston Cougars, Montana State Bobcats, Princeton Tigers, Vermont Catamounts and Texas Southern Tigers. That has all of the makings of a cat fight. And we haven't even touched the various dogs in the fight (say Gonzaga Bulldogs or UConn Huskies).
If you look at the Women's Tournament there are a few more.......
But to each his or her own.
Real Quiet 03-16-2023 10:38 AM
After round one my team will be the Pittsburgh Burro's
JolyB 03-16-2023 10:45 AM
For team names, you can't overlook the Paladins of Furman (anyone remember "Have Gun Will Travel"?)
I remember it. Richard Boone was the good guy in that TV series. Later on, he was the bad guy in one of my favorite westerns and that was Hombre with Paul Newman. I judge whether a movie is good or bad by whether I can remember lines from it. I remember Boone had a line where he said to Paul Newman "you've got some hard bark on you mister," as Newman's character descends a staircase to rescue the fair maiden and gets in a gunfight with Boone and his Mexican pistolero. Of course, Newman the hero, prevails in the gunfight, but is killed himself. As the pistolero is dying, he says, "Who was that hombre?" This was a tale by Elmore Leonard.
One of the college teams here in Arkansas is named the Muleriders. Why you would want to contribute to everyone's notion of people in Arkansas being toothless hillbillies out of the movie Deliverance, I do not know, but I think the school was founded around the beginning of the 20th century and probably at that time, there were a lot of people around the country using mules as a means of conveyance.
Actually, there are several stakes, but not many are graded. I mentioned Laurel in an earlier post because Digger took us there once. I did not play that day because I had no clue about any of those races which happens occasionally. Seemed better not to play to me so I didn't.
