Secret Oath

Fun to see Lukas with such a nice filly late in his career. She has that big loping stride like her sire and covers a lot of ground.
I do have concern. She didn’t seem to switch leads properly and was on the wrong lead the entire stretch. Anyone else notice that? Concerned?

Dahoss 02-27-2022 06:51 PM

Good catch, but she has done the same thing in all of her races, especially the ones she has won. She takes the lead turning for home, is on the wrong lead and makes her way down to the rail.

My concern is her rider is eventually going to get her beat. No need to get cute when you’re on much the best horse.

Always good to see Lukas with a good one

Secret Oath was on the correct lead in the stretch; it looked a bit awkward because she tends to keep her head cocked to the right.

Like Da Hoss mentioned, she tends to drift towards the rail.

Not for nothing, Eight Belles did the same to one degree or another in the Martha Washington, Honey Bee, and Fantasy. Could have been DQ'd in the latter. Similar physique and stride. Same sire line, too (Unbridled's Song).

You're 100% correct about her leads. She's fine there. You're also right that she tends to drift. That's a concern but it might also be a positive in that she's still learning. I'm a little worried that she might not mentally handle the 65,000 on Arkansas Derby day. Or the 135,000 on KY Derby day.

IMO she's a generational talent.

Dahoss 02-28-2022 07:31 AM

Thank you baby Jesus for gracing us with Vic’s presence this morning!

freddymo 02-28-2022 07:35 AM

Since I dont believe Songbird was a generational talent and since Secret Oak couldn't run within a pole of Songbird I guess I am going to need to see a much faster race before I believe she is all that and a bag of chips.

It's all about Vic always...so because she runs at Oaklawn, she's generational.

If you go by Thoro-Graph which I do. She's actually a little faster than SONGBIRD.

I took DrugS seriously after Rachel won the Martha Washington and he told me she was special, Vic not so much after the Honeybee.

Jerry Brown certainly has an educated opinion that warrants attention.

DrugS opinion > Vic's opinion

Having said that, I'd love for her to be that good. Nothing better than when Lukas has a really good one, because you know at the least we will get to see her run.

It would be great and don't underestimate the NBC drivel that we will be treated too

blackthroatedwind 02-28-2022 09:21 AM

There's something really wrong when horses like Secret Oath are referred to as a generational talent unless it's tongue in cheek. At this point she's a promising 3YO beating up on horribly overmatched horses, even more so than Songbird, who at least was a brilliant 2YO that never really progressed significantly but was still good enough to beat most of the horses she faced.

This has been an incredibly uninspiring crop of 3YO fillies, save Echo Zulu, so it's great to see someone else come along, but a little rational perspective wouldn't hurt.

I'm rational. Well at least I think I am. I believe she's that good. Chances are I'm wrong. But I have been right before. We'll see. Should be fun.

Luis Saez to ride Secret Oath in the Kentucky Oaks per Gabby Gaudet on Twitter.

cakes44 04-11-2022 10:12 PM

Needed to happen.

RolloTomasi 04-11-2022 11:24 PM

Secret Oath v. Kathleen O. v. Echo Zulu v. Nest in the Kentucky Oaks.

Only thing better would have been Meadow Star v. Lite Light v. Dance Smartly v. Versailles Treaty in the 1991 Alabama.

The only thing I've said about him on Twitter is I'm a much better handicapper and that if we went head to head I'd kick his tail.

And if I was on set with him I wouldn't back down to his bullying.

Period.

I've suggested to NYRA they put us on together. Think it would be good theatre.

NYRA isn't interested.

Boy do you get a lot of facts wrong.

That was a gag we both pulled on each other.

And we NEVER blocked each other. We unfollowed each other for a few days.

MIZUNO did.

I'm hitting their top of the line irons and recommend them to anyone that wants to use the best equipment on the market.

Boy do you get a lot of race calls wrong.

Maybe pander less and work on your craft.

That way you won’t get dragged on Twitter for being so fake.

How long until you cry about how mean I am and how you’re leaving because you just want to talk racing with real fans?

That’s my favorite line of yours.

I think I'm calling better than at any point in my career. Clear, concise, accurate, exciting.

Do I make some mistakes?

Sure, as does everybody.

Can't please everyone but my Twitter responses this year have been mostly positive and supportive.

There's plenty of places to talk to real racing fans.

If it makes you feel better to be mean.

Have at it.

It's clear it's not just me. You're terrible to everyone on this site.

I expect that's why it doesn't get the exposure of some of the others.

But if Steve doesn't care about your vitriol why should anyone else?

That first paragraph speaks volumes. The ultimate ego maniac. You find your calls to be exciting? Oy vey.

Your twitter responses…..LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Because YOU think my calls are ****. That makes it true?

You're just one angry guy.

Why does it mean I have a HUGE EGO because I think I'm good at what I do?

I've been able to eek out a living in this business for 40 years.

How bad can I suck?

Last time we did this you deleted all of your posts. You plan on doing that again?

The subtle shot at Steve is nice though.

You’re just a scumbag Vic. Always have been. You have always been able to fool the low hanging fruit but not much past that.

I’m the real fan you covet Vic. I’ve been following and betting on this sport for almost 30 years man. And I see through your bullish.it. Like many do. And that will always bother you.

Nearly every post you make on message boards is either all about you or self promoting. Why is that?

Longevity doesn’t equal quality.

The fact you don’t see how ridiculous it is for someone to speak of themselves like that, there’s nothing that could help. You’re too old to realize that some self awareness would help.

Like I said. Just because you say things doesn't make them true.

You're just one angry guy.

Kinda sad truthfully.

In and amongst all the hate I see bits and pieces of someone who has some interesting opinions about our sport.

There you have it Vic. Calling me a bully. Good luck with that. You want to adopt a dishonest Twitter narrative ( surely you know these exist in MANY destructive ways on social media ) have at it...but it speaks volumes about you.

Sorry, but asking people to rationally defend opinions is not bullying. It's expecting a level of performance that racing fans deserve. I get it, you don't think racing fans deserve quality. I do. We'll have to agree to disagree on that issue. Glad you made your position clear.

People that actually know me don’t think I’m angry.

Then again…I don’t feel the need to pander to people online. I’m not trying to boost my ego with the opinions of strangers. That’s all on you big guy.

Kinda sad truthfully.

I see why your buddy Mountainman does it. He’s a nobody. You’re actually a name in this industry so to see you do it is really pathetic.
