What a gutsy animal!
:) Good ol' SPOOKY MULDER looked like he was beat deep in the stretch, but he showed that age means nothing to come back and win! This is what horse racing is all about!
|
is it any wonder why so many people love this horse?
|
Amazing performace.. getting passed on both sides then coming back to win like that... what a horse...

All Together now: Spoo-ky!
Ever seen a gamer, braver horse than Spooky Mulder? Boy, if we could clone him..., Too bad he's a gelding, because he's the kind of horse we all love to watch run and should be the type breeders want to breed.
(For you X-filers, he has a younger brother by Smoke Glacken named The Smoking Man). |

Spooky was just claimed back by Lake for 75K

Thanks
That Was Fun To Watch
|
Holy shiznit....what a game old fella he is
|
there need to have more high dollar "geldings only" stakes races for guys like this.
what a race! |
He really deserves the nickname "the gutsy gelding!" What a runner.
|
wow, thats was impressive, thanks for posting the vid.

The horse he beat Morine's Victory is no slouch. I was at an OTB for the race and all the hard core fans LOVE this old horse. It was a contest and for some of them it cost plenty but everyone cheers for Spooky. It's great.
BTW, he trotted into the winner's circle like he wanted to go around again. |
Can we make sure he gets a good home. B/c I don't want to see what happened to Mountain General happen to him.

Let's pool our money together from winnings

I scored the exacta & triple with him today, it's my donation to the cause. |
I singled him in the pick 4 with no backup in the race (missed the last leg, too bad), so midstretch I thought it was over and was ready to trash my tickets, but never give up on this guy. Some determination and guts. I couldn't stop talking about it all day... What a great racehorse!

I disagree with the ppl who say he should be retired. He's pretty sound, with his feet being the worst of his ailments. To try as hard as he did yesterday in his 70th race, tells me that he wants to run and still can. And if something's not right, he shuts himself down, as he did in the Meadowlands race. He's made over $200k this year and will go off at something like 3-1 or 4-1 if he makes the Gravesend. If they retired the horse, what would he do? |
He can retire to my backyard with all my pasture ornaments, they LOVE having me wait on them hand and foot! :D
|
The ol' boy's in pretty good shape and no one claims a "charity case" for $75k. I too would be horrified if anything bad were to happen to Spooky but I don't see him being "at risk" at this point.
Seventy five thousand is a LOT of dough to drop on an 8yo gelding and there may be some sentiment involved but they have to look at the investment. He's an Inner Track specialist who got a bonus race with the surface switch this weekend. He should go to the Gravesend and then some of the other winter stakes, as he did last season. |
