Digger's Show Bets
 

I'll try to explain this bet as simple as I can. I'am going to start the day with a bankroll of $20. Starting with race 1 I'll bet half of my bankroll throughout the card till bankroll is empty. First bet will be race 1, $10 show on Wit #4. If loses then bankroll is $10. If wins, then bankroll increases.
It's my fun bet on days like today. I'll need some luck to make it through the hole card. I'll stop after race 11 though.

Sounds like an enjoyable way to spend the afternoon. A couple of the races [races 6 and 8 especially] looked like difficult races in which to come up with a show pick, but if you are successful you should be rewarded. If you post your picks here as the day proceeds, we can applaud your success.

Well done.:tro: Looks like a fun way to play with a small investment. :tro: I lost what you won plus about another $100, but that was just giving a bit of my Derby winnings back. Overall, I'm still a little ahead in Triple Crown Play. Chalky day on Saturday killed my returns plus my bets were a bit anemic. Was afraid that would be the case. I think that might have been the chalkiest Belmont I can remember.

Thank you cal828. Sorry to hear you lost but glad you are still ahead in triple crown series. Short returns are hard to profit from for sure. Parley bets can help but they need commitment and patience to work in the long haul. It's not for everyone but has worked for me over the decades I have been wagering.

JB you were so right about races 6 and 8. Scratch was my friend though, in them two races.

Going for that show parley again.

Digger, I hope that you don't mind my trespassing on your show parlay thread. I had very much wanted to play a Derby City Pick 6 for my ROI today - after all it is closing day at Churchill Downs and therefore a mandatory payout of the carryover. Unfortunately, I just couldn't come up with a pick 6 array that I was happy with and still fit within the $100 ROI limit, even with a bold single of Maxfield in the Stephen Foster.

So, just for fun I want to post my best shot at a sort of bare bones pick 6 here and follow it as the races unfold.

Race 7:
$0.20 pick 6: 5,7,8 / 1,3,7,8 / 2,4,8,9 / 1,3,8 / 8 / 1,4,7,8 [$115.20]

p.s. - Digger, I noticed that 5 of your 6 show parlay picks for races 7-12 are on my ticket too. I also liked #7 Ride A Comet in the Wise Dan but had to draw the line somewhere. That's the most difficult part of a pick 4 or 5 or 6. You just can't include all of the horses you like and stay within a reasonable budget.

Thanks Digger. Loved the way that Maxfield won the Foster. The will pays look decent for a sequence without any bombs. Hope the finale is formful, although of all of the races this one had the least form to use. I don't understand the lack of play on #4 Town Avenger. 16-1 now; I expected odds to be in the 5-1 to 8-1 range. Well, we shall see.

Been jumping back and forth between the day at the races and the 3rd round of the Travelers Championship, played just a few miles from me and always popular in this area.

Speed kills so they say. I was worried about Navratilova but just couldn't include her and stay within budget. She was able to dictate the pace and had enough left at the end. Most of my picks were sprinters stretching out and didn't have much kick. Toby's Heart just left herself too much to do at the end. It was fun while it lasted, but I still end the day with a loud Blarg.
