Randy Rutgers

what are your thoughts on tonight's big game in Piscataway?
should be a good one!

pmayjr 11-09-2006 03:01 PM

I wish them the best. I'm always one to root for the underdog. It also has something to do with that fact that I live in Big Ten country. The two best teams in the country this year are boith in the Big Ten IMO. The point will be re-affirmed if Michigan and Ohio State play a close one. So if Louisville wins, it will wreck any chance of a re-match for the national title.

Whose program has improved like Rutgers. I hope it's a close game (not like last year) but I don't see a let down this week for the Cardinals (unfortunately) But, a win tonight and a victory over W.V. in a few weeks and they SHOULD get a major bowl bid.

timmgirvan 11-09-2006 03:51 PM

Glad to see Rutgers hanging tough....Cards should do the job tonite, but Rutgers continuing good play should indeed get them to a good bowl!

I'm an SEC guy myself
but the ppl who call in the radio shows and say:
"The SEC is the bay-ust, they should be playin' fer the national champeenship"
make Gomer Pyle sound like George Plimpton
the host had a point
The Big East is a BCS conference
if an undefeated team comes out of a BCS conference
and does not get in, why is that conference in the BCS?
OSU-Mich winner vs. U of L-Rutgers winner!

Good question....but who ever said the BCS is fair?

Hickory Hill Hoff 11-09-2006 04:32 PM

Yes...in a simple world

It should be that way, but the BCS rarely comes out right. It would only make sense to have two undefeated teams in the big game. But, then again...it's all about RATINGS! ;)

if Louisville loses...it will be a mess:
Texas will feel it should go
the SEC winner will feel it should go
the USC-Cal winner will try to make their case
the OSU-Michigan loser will have a case as well
etc. etc.
prolly be a mess anyways

The Gators...your right, it will be a mess!
But, I guess no one is beating Ohio St.
the match up with Michigan may be the National Championship :D

skippy3481 11-09-2006 07:28 PM

That was one of the better fake punts I have ever seen. I think that was an option with the upback. He could hand off for the dive or sprint out right and and either hand off to the reverse or run himself with the punter as his last option. Very very creative.

philcski 11-09-2006 10:13 PM

RRRR!!!!
UUUU!!!

I can't believe it!!!
I never thought we could win this game!!!

saucon17 11-09-2006 10:13 PM

RU

They will be partying in Piscataway on the old Raritan.

Scarlett Fever spreading across the Garden State :D :D :D

randallscott35 11-09-2006 10:22 PM

Wish I had seen the thread before I watched it.

Tried to get tickets for a week and couldn't, who'd have thunk it.

On cloud 9 right now. Unreal effort.

philcski 11-09-2006 10:33 PM

The last game I went to as a student we were losing 59-7 to West Virginia.

At HALFTIME.

I can't believe how far this program has come in 5 short years.

I was there from 98-02 so I know where you are coming from....

timmgirvan 11-09-2006 10:42 PM

WOW---Props to Rutgers! Shutting down Louisville in second half....could not have imagined that one...So BCS is really gonna look weird now!

saucon17 11-09-2006 10:46 PM

RU had Brohm running for his life in the 2nd half. His brother was chewing his a$$ off on the sideline after every offensive series. No. 2 ranked defense outplayed the No. 2 ranked offense. After the 1st quarter I thought UofL was going to put 50 points on the scoreboard like they did last time against RU. Hopefully there will be no let down against the Bearcats next week.

You are a 100% right. I am worried about that Cincy game, but having the extra few days till next Sat does help.

saucon17 11-09-2006 11:01 PM

I'm remember the old days my father (a proud RU alum) taking me to RU games and watching the getting beat by DIV 1AA, DIV2 football teams and even being killed by Duke in 80's at Giants Stadium. Thank god we can put those horrible memories to the grave. My neighbor down the street made the right choice choosing to play for Scarlett Knights football team. I'm so happy for Leonard he came back for another season.

randallscott35 11-09-2006 11:05 PM

To be honest, when I was there, I wanted them to go 1AA b/c they couldn't compete....Plus, its such a tough academic school that I thought they should focus all their funds towards that...I still kind of do, but at least we are getting what we paid for now.

saucon17 11-09-2006 11:17 PM

It's hard to believe tickets were going for about 350 bucks
on ebay for this game...thats right a Rutgers football game,
a couple of years ago you couldn't give the tickets away.

Very few "top" academic schools are competitive in football, but it can be done. Michigan, Ohio State, Texas, Cal, UCLA, etc. are perenially good/great football & top academic state schools. There's no reason the S.U.N.J. can't join them!

if rutgers beats wvu they win the big east and get the bcs game bid. might not be the championship game but a bcs game none the less.

BellamyRd. 11-10-2006 10:36 AM

who wins the big east if WV beats Rutgers?
local headline here: "The Dream Slips Away"
aww...feel sorry for the kid who jumped offsides
stormin' the field looks fun, they never let us do that at Bama:(
Ray Rice should win the Heisman!

Some wacky tie breakers involved no doubt. That game would be brutal to win, I'm not hopeful, but to have the shot.....

ddthetide 11-10-2006 11:06 AM

head of the big east was just on espn radio. if it ends in a 3-way tie or 2 team tie. team with the highest ranking at bowl bid time gets the bcs game bid.

saucon17 11-12-2006 02:32 PM

Latest poll just released Rutgers #7 in the AP Poll and #8 in the coaches poll and the BCS hasn't been released. How can Notre Dame move up to #6 and they haven't beat quality team in their last 5 games. You can probably say 6 in a row because they play another powerhouse in Army. They have to be just voting on the Notre Dame name and not looking at who they have beat and plus they struggled against these teams...

Society Selection 11-12-2006 08:18 PM

Philly.. don't call them SUNJ.

I was in Section 102, Row 2.

It was the greatest sporting even of my life.

I went there from 99 to 03. I went to one game for 1 quarter my frosh year. At homecoming, we just sat there and drank and never went into the game.

This year it was RIDICULOUS at homecoming - people actually went into the game.

Pointg5 11-15-2006 11:52 AM

Considering going to the Cincy vs. Rutgers game, I think Rutgers will win, but might be a decent game...

They are practically giving tickets away for $10: you get a ticket to the game, a t-shirt, and a ticket to a UC Basketball game...Not only that, they are going to show the Michigan vs. OSU game on a big screen with discounted food and drinks...That's not too bad considering Cincy is one of the only schools that serves beer at the game...Why else do you think Huggins coached there?
