Points and ROI Totals through November 16,2019
Starting the new handicapping season with a couple of carry over repeats as Cal828 grabs the ROI repeat and hits a nice 2nd in Pts whicl DonGuido starts off with a bang nabbing a repeat win in the Points Contest. JolyB starts with a nice place position in ROI and Real Quiet and Cruzan200246 pocket some points with minor honors. The start of a handicapping year leaves some to be desired on venues and entries as we saw this week at Del Mar and it's a slow grind to put an order to the players. But the bevy of Derby hopefuls will soon start to materialize. I always ask at the start the year if anyone can recruit new players and or talk the ones that show up now and then into playing on a regular basis. Not sure what's up with El Prado (hope she's OK). OK, so DonGuido must have found the magic potion he lost most of last year and starts out of the gate in the new year with a very good lead gaining 30 bonus points for a three-peat while landing 2nd in ROI as well. Cal828 adds nicely to his bank with a place in Pts while JolyB captures points hitting both the Pts nd ROI contest and Plenilune joins him doing the same. Lets not overlook NJ Stinks who spots us a couple of weeks and jumps into the fray with a very nice win in ROI. We'll lose a day of horse racing concentration, as we should, in celebrating Thanksgiving but that's OK as I understand turkey will all help us rest our brains more than ever so we can take on the next card. Hmmmmmmm, DonGuido seems to have a magic lamp he's rubbing this year as he takes off to a pretty commanding lead so far and Cal828 is not too far behind nailing place spots in both contests. Well we have a new leader as Cal828 knocks down a huge REPEAT and SWEEP this week. Nice job Cal, as DonGuido takes over the end rung of the ladder with 4th in Pts. JolyB hangs tough in the 3 hole nabbing a 2nd in Pts and Ruffian rejoins the group hitting on a 3rd in Pts. She'll soon move up the ladder I'm sure. So my Clemson Tigers didn't have any answers for a loaded LSU Team. It was hard to watch. They were out played and out coached, which is the only time it's been done in the last two years. I can see them going for the CFP trophy again next year but we'll have to wait and see. They still have the premier program in the nation. With the toppers being quieted, JolyB rolls on adding 2nd place Pts totals to his bank while the Colorado clairvoyant kitten Ruffian continues to dominate in ROI with her magical longshot picks and jumps way up into the 3 hole. Real Quiet is no slouch winning the Pts contest hanging tough on the 5th rung of the ladder and Plenilune nicely takes the place spot in ROI solidifying her hold on the 6 spot and Alli puts in a nice effort for a show spot in Pts adding to her totals. We are experiencing some unusual times now in most everything we take for granted but it will get back to normal soon I hope. We have a wonderful group of folks here and unless something changes for the worse in this amazing sport we are all fortunate to keep looking forward to playing this contest . . . something small but important to be thankful for. Lets get this all updated on this abysmal showing at The Fairgrounds. I know we can all do better than this although one Player knocked it out of the park!!! Cal828 remains relatively quiet adding pts for a place spot in Pts and the same for DonGuido adding minor honors. RealQuiet is not quiet at all and the home run hitter this week as he gathers a very nice SWEEP and a REPEAT adding 40 bonus points and a leap in the 3 hole, very nice RQ. JolyB shares place honors with Cal hanging tough in the 4 hole and Roamin42 bolsters his hold on the 9th rung of the ladder with a 4th in Pts. We can't help but practice social and cyber distancing here and that's a good thing but really, make sure everyone here stays safe and rides this crazy period out without coming down with the bad CV19. It all kinda reminds me of Rod Serling's Twilight Zone. I'm sure there's at least one or two shows similar to what we are experiencing not. So in this very stressful, volatile and crazy year in many wanys as we all maintain some semblance of fun and togetherness here. This is a good thing and this is a good place to keep it going. So we have double points and extras as some of cashed in big this week on both. Our Colorado Kitten consulted her crystal ball and hit the Extras big time by nailing the straight exacta, last place horse Jungle Runner and closest to the lengths back being 39 1/4, she said 33. Other Extras beneficiaries were DG, Cal and JB who called for Jungle Runner to finish last. Not as many cashed in on the extras as I thought would. See totals and changes below. And I also added the points for 6/13 contest I overlooked. I guess I shouldn't be helping JolyB in his quest to dethrone me as the leader, but that will likely happen anyway with his inspired play. I think there is something amiss with the last totals. Joly's totals didn't change from 6/20 to 6/27 which I think can't be right. With a 1st in ROI and a 3rd in Points wouldn't he have earned 15 or 16 points on 6/27? Apologies, if I am wrong.

Thank you Cal. That was a very sportsmanlike gesture on your part. I hope that I can reciprocate some day. I must confess that with all of the other things going on I have not paid much attention to the standings. I've been treating our weekly contests as a much needed diversion from other stuff and view this as a most enjoyable game we play among friends.

Saratoga is not being very nice to us but it usually never is as far as handicapping. JolyB nailed a 3rd in Pts adding to his pocket and DonGuido hit a win in Pts helping he rise close to our Colorado kitten but stays in the 3 hole. Plenilune came in the place spot in points keeping s secure hold on the 6th rung of the ladder and Cruzan gathered a very win in ROI and 4th place bid in Pts. Love my new laptop, bargin basement price but after much research it appears to be the best of a poor man's device loaded with Windows 10S and Office 365. I'm sure it's back to The Spa again for the Travers card. So not much to write home about but JolyB captured 3rd place points while Ruffian added points for the show spot and DonGuido landed a minor score coming hitting 4th in Pts. Real Quiet took home the big prize of the day for a Pts win and Plenilune joined JB with a show spot. The ROI wagers hurt as well with Plen being the only one to get something back but shy of scoring points. Off the The Spa again for Travers day.
