Ive been recording HRTV's coverage of the sale and watching it at night.
some really big prices.
saw Madcap go through for 6M yesterday. in foal to Pulpit I think they said.
Sharp Lisa and Vacare were sold for big numbers also.

anyone have any thoughts?
good sign for the health of the industry.

Thanks Repent. I'm surprised that Shinging Energy only went for $1.2 million. She is a grade I winner and is by Rahy. I figured she'd go for about $2 million.

I'm surprised that Andujar went for $2.5 million. I had no idea she was worth so much. She's not a grade I winner. She did win a grade II and she's by Quiet American. I figured she was only worth $1 million. I guess there's some strength on her dam side. Reddam ended up doing great with her with this sale. He only had her for 3 races. He bought her privately for $700,000 off a huge allowance win. He brought her back in a grade II and she won it. Then she ran 2 more times and bowed a tendon and she was done. I figured he'd be lucky to make a small profit on her after she bowed. I had no idea that he could get $2.5 million for her.

yeah,
guess its largely about pedigree at that venue.

there were tons of broodmare prospects that sold for far more than her that I did not post.
i just posted her sale price b/c she was such a nice racemare.

there were probably some other nice racehorses without much pedigree that sold at Fasig Tipton that I missed.
I just skimmed over the results and posted the higher prices and the notable runners like Bear Fan and La Reason.

yeah,
same here.

I really did like her as a racehorse, but I remember back at the end of 2004 that really good racehorses like Elloluv and Dublino sold for less(both sold for less than 2 from what I remember).

maybe it was the dam side that brought Andujar's price up.
seeme like Reddam has done everything right lately.

She looked fantastic. I thought they'd even go higher than that, but the sheikhs weren't in town. I bid 500k (the first bid) just for kicks (i don't have that kind of money, obviously.)

She looked fantastic as well, I loved this one on-track. However, her family isn't yet known as "producers" so i think that limits her megabucks potential until she drops a couple runners.

The numbers are staggering either way...

I do that and no one else would bid....then I would be looking around begging for the remaining $499, 995:o

HAHAHA! if i could get Madcap for $500k I'd find a way. Sell my house, borrow the rest from loan sharks, whatever.

On a funnier note, I almost accidentally bid $1,000,000 on the next hip (the dam of the Green Monkey), i scratched my nose and he thought that was a bid and i said "noooooooooo"! didn't matter, was an RNA at that price anyways.

LOL....just a minor scratch of the nose is all it takes...too funny.

Quiet American mares are being held in high regard. Unraced and unaccomplished QA mares are going for a few hundred grand... so a G2 winner from an amazing family is going to bring some major bids. She's from the family of Real Quiet, Majestic Prince, Crowned Prince, TV Commercial... etc. Strong, strong family.

Yeah...that is what I was getting ready to say too:rolleyes:

Balletto 11-08-2006 08:55 AM

Half Ours was the one I was interested in seeing go through the ring. There was a lot of hype around this colt as a young 2yo and he's got a family that has been real active lately and been patronized well at the sales. He ended up going through for 6.1 million to Aaron Jones. The prce is deceptive though since Mr. Jones co-owned the horse while he was racing and was truly buying out his partner. Half Ours will remain in training.

Is Half Ours in training right now? Last I saw he was turned out.

This is a direct quote from the article link above...

Jones, who owned and raced Half Ours, a son of Unbridled's Song in partnership with Barry Schwartz, bought out his partner to take total control of the gray or roan 3-year-old colt. Half Ours will remain in training with Todd Pletcher.

Racing for Jones and Schwartz, Half Ours, who has two wins from two career starts, including a win in last year's Three Chimneys Juvenile Stakes, suffered a fracture in his right hind ankle which required pins to be inserted. Jones said the colt has begun working again.

Kev, I remember reading the same thing for some reason.

Balletto 11-08-2006 09:07 AM

If I were a breeder interested in this colt, i'd follow the progeny of Yankee Gentleman very closely the next year. Similar types from the same family with Storm Cat upclose. Might be very telling...

He's not on the West Coast, he's been working out with TGM all of October, from what I understand.

Yes, Half Ours has been working. Worked 5f on the Belmont Training Track on Oct 30. 1:02.13 13/43

I don't know for sure but I would certainly assume that they will retire her. Most mares that are bought at this sale are usually bought as broodmare prospects and are usually retired.

I understand that these were .50 dollars but that seemed awfully high for a horse that was scratched lame this spring, is going to be 4 years old and has 2 starts. I understand that he is fast and talented but have we come to the point where horses stand stud because of what they might have accomplished instead of actual accomplishments?

He was one of my favorite horses of all time. I saw him up close several times through his career and he matured into one of the nicest bodied horses I have seen, he had a classy air about him and this horse was as honest as they get, Perfect Drift has a legion of fans for his supposed grittiness, well MDO could have told him a thing or two about heart, I am hoping he passes his excellent qualities on to his foals, would LOVE to see him succeed. I even have thought down the line I would love to have one of his offspring, like maybe offering a permanent pet status to a gelding in retirement, I would spoil it to death and brag on Daddy. :D

the significant thing to me about MDO besides all the things you mentioned is that his offspring should act on turf as well.
I always wanted to see MDO run in one of those Grade 1 turf races at Del Mar at 8 or 9f.
think he would have done very well, but obviously he had more money to make in the handicap division.
only time not to run top 2 was the KY Derby and Preakness if I remember correctly.
should make an excellent sire and its good that we will have some of the Sadlers Wells blood in this country.
