Vic Stauffer booted by Gulfstream
Larry Collmus? I know it was between them two in 2002. I guess he found out via E-mail, pretty weak IMO.
|
Where did you hear this?
|
Its on DRF
|
got it. thanks.
always great when the employee finds out he is let go via e-mail. |

No ****. Email? Gee, guess they couldn't be bothered to place a call to the west coast. Course, it IS Magna. |
They obviously just want to turn it into a casino, I paid attention to there, thus played more wagers there because I like his race calls......

How about a straight-up trade? |

I'd take that! |

sad sad day. I have already felt so lucky that Arlington had John Dooley and I love being at the park and listening to his calls. matter of opinion i suppose :) |

all i can say is if i get fired by email, they better send to it to me in the evening, so i can sleep in next morning.
that's gotta suck tho. a 'dear john' letter from the office. |

Yes i find that i'm in the big minority on this but i don't like his calls at all or the sound of his voice. we've gone over it several times and i have went into details why. its just a personal preference. if i'm honest, i have to say he is one of my least favorite callers. he is accurate but i just find his calls goofy and he tries so hard to find strange ways to say simple things. |
Wow,this is big news! But you know, you never know if you can EVER trust Magna. They screwed Michael Wrona when he was at Lone Star. For Vic,I am glad to see he is free of Magna entertainment.I bet TVG picks him up for the winter. He has done a lot of work for them before.

AMEN about Wrona. I love him and he was screwed royally. RACING... |
That's nothing my buddy's Boss came and got the company car on X-Mas Eve . What a way to go out.

Nice!!!!!!!!!

but really though, when he says "up and on this gallop," for the longest time i thought he was talking about seafood because it sounds like he is saying "up and on this scallop." mmmmmmm, seafood. and yes, i will defend his worth as a race caller until someone better comes along. In all honesty, there is no one i would rather listen to calling races. durkin, stauffer, denman included. i think he's fabulous. really is a personal preference and i respect that :) |

I mainly don't like the sound of his voice. he sounds like his nose is plugged up. i give you that he is technically good. but it's just an odd quality, like the races don't sound important when he calls them. it may be just me but that's how i feel. i don't know if i've ever had anyone agree with me. my opinion is also shaped by how he does the local preshows and the in between race announcements.

terrible news, but yet another reason to despise magna.
Vic is the best in the game at calling a race. someone mentioned Dooley. hes one of the best also. maybe we will see more of him on TVG now. short list- Vic Denman Dooley luke k wrona Repent |
fukk stronach and magna!!!!!!!!!!!!!! nothing new coming from me tho. we had vic here for 1 meet in chicago@hawthorne right before he went on to bigger and better things, it was truly a pleasure to have a man whos as good a racecaller and as big a fan of the sport as he is calling the races here. brian, you missed out@arlington. before they closed for a lil bit in the 90's and were still called arlington international wrona was calling the races, arlington lost alotta its flare when he left. dooleys adequate but he didnt deserve the job when arlington reopened, kevin goemmer who was calling races@hawthorne and sportsmans did but instead he got screwed over and got his heart broke and left arlington altogether to never call races again. that is until a couple of years ago he was calling at turfway for a week or so one winter and one night after the races he had a heart attack in his car and passed away. rip kevin!

He wanted Trevor type money in Dallas.....lets just put it like that. You would have laughed to know what he was making and what he wanted to call the races there....laughed... |
Dooley is not going anywhere...mark my words....I talked to him over the weekend and he is looking forward to going down to New Orleans for FG this winter...he is a company guy and his contract ties Arlington and FG together for CDI....he's not going to Gulfstream..
|
They have already courted one guy who most of you know and then dropped him from consideration due to personal problems, and I have a pretty good feeling of who they are going after now. Something will break shortly.
|
This most likely has everything to do with the fact that Vic likes to go on TVG and works for the competitor also. NO OTHER REASON then that. That is fine, Vic is a good handicapper (fellow TG user) and I would pay attention to TVG if he was on there more often.....

i'm just one that doesn't like his calling style that's all. I give him credit though for working at his craft. he does his homework and tries to add new things each year. sometimes he drops things as well. |
collmus ? Becker ?

Collmus needs a tan :D He is an accurate caller and nice guy, although his calls don't particularly excite me. Thats OK, he doesnot grate on you though like some others, like Vic does for me. Durkin and Denman are at the head of the race callers list, though some may not personally like their style. The guy from Keeneland (Kurt becker ?)would also be OK with me, he is accurate and doesn't get in the way. |
