"Bad beat" stories from the Derby

I apologize in advance, but my morbid curiosity can't help but wonder about the bad beat stories from yesterday and how much it cost people. I'm sure many were alive to some multis....

Also curious about the positive windfall $$ stories as a result of the DQ.

For me, I went all in on Improbable, so I was not impacted by "the incident"...

The will-pay for a $2 exacta (7/20) was $900 on the KD "live odds" site at the bottom....

I would’ve gotten DQ’ed into the tri if Tacitus hadn’t nailed Improbable for fourth.

I hit $1 exacta as result of DQ. Was playing golf this morning and saw a buddy who went to Oaklawn for closing day and the Derby and asked if the DQ helped him. He and another guy split a $1 Super and $51,000. I thought he was kidding but turns out to be the truth.

Bruinguybry 05-05-2019 04:31 PM

I had a $5 double oaks/derby to MS also had the P5 if he stays up. Gonna take awhile for the sting to go away. Was hosting a party, after the dq had to try and act like it wasnt a big deal but everyone could tell otherwise.

Pick 4 will pay

Does anybody know what the pick 4 would have paid had the 7 been left up?

Had $1 Exacta 7/20 and $1 Tri 7/20/13 so $3000 or so down the drain.

Hopefully next year they stick to the "rule" and DQ every horse that hits another horse coming out of the gate OR if the 18/19/20 cut in front of a horse and get in there lane they are DQ

ninetoone 05-05-2019 08:15 PM

I think next year, each horse will run individually and the order of finish will be based upon their times. Not quite as exciting though....

Sounds like a great idea!! That way the stewards can follow the "rule" that says no horse can touch another horse or interfere with another's path

They will probably make sure that the horses don't step in previous horses hoof prints

I’ll share a minor good luck story.

My dad was a huge horse racing fan and he passed away in September of 2017. 5 months later, our family’s favorite football team ended a 50+ year drought and won their first Super Bowl. So everyone in the family, even if they “believe” or not, sort of joked that dad had a hand in it.

Since his passing, my mom picks a horse each year for the Derby that she thinks my dad would have liked and puts a $2 WP bet on it. This year, she picked Country House. Naturally, she was thrilled when the horse finished 2nd. She cried when they put the horse up. So I guess blame my dad for the DQ, if you believe in that sort of stuff.
