B,
I'm a big fan as well.
The only excuse I can offer (and remember, excuses are for losers becuase winners don't have to make them), is that Javier moved him too early...at the 3/8th pole. Shoulda saved him for later.
Not a bad race for him. I hope he passes on the good stuff to his foals.
I don't think we'll see him run again (unfortunately).

Danzig 11-05-2006 06:56 PM

nah, he ran his race, like tommy and javier said. seems it wasn't quite enough this time.

timmgirvan 11-05-2006 07:30 PM

I think that the jockey moved him too soon, but I'm not sure he could have beaten Invasors' kick!

SniperSB23 11-05-2006 07:47 PM

I appreciate this thread and those fans of the horse that can admit he was beaten by the better horse on that day (although I think everyday :p ). It's a shame we'll never get to see them square off again but that's modern day horse racing.

pgardn 11-05-2006 08:07 PM

Sure there are excuses. He got beat by an older more experienced warrior who this man (meaning me) thought would not be ready. Note to self: His trainer can get horses ready off a layoff.

He ran as well as he could given the circumstances. If Invasor was not there some would have him as Secretariat. Looking back, how was Javier supposed to know. Every race had been a cake walk after a move like he made. The field crumbled. This was a very different field. Full of good horses. I would not call it as deep as some of the prior years, but for an inexperienced (experienced in short mediocre fields) 3 year old to almost pull it off... a very nice run.

pmayjr 11-05-2006 09:01 PM

Yeah that's the thing. Bernardini made a powerful move around the stretch and looked much the best. I think 'Dini is still a nice horse, but he was beaten by a star in Invasor.

Now- If Godolphin is just planning on using "dini for in house breeding, then they shuould retire him. But if they plan on selling off some of his breeding rights, let him race next year and build his credentials. A part of me says this too because I wanna see the two lock horns one more time. If Invasor beats him again... then he really is the best. But I wanna see them do ti again.

oracle80 11-05-2006 09:06 PM

His excuse was that it wasnt a five horse field and that the best other horse in the race didn't break his leg for a change. The most overglorified horse in the history of racing. He got his look in the eye, and showed no courage or heart never even looking for one fleeting moment as if he was going to battle back. Invasor bitch slapped him.

its a shame we didnt get to see the same thing happen to mineshaft. Oh wait...we did. The stephen foster. Make bernardini the SECOND most overhyped horse in history. At least Bernardini's people didnt run scared.

Antitrust32 11-05-2006 09:47 PM

I thought that I saw Bernardini try to run back at Invasor at the wire and just past the wire. This excellent three year old got beat by a length by one of the worlds best in Invasor. It was a gutsy run and I would not say that just cause Bernardini lost that he couldnt look a horse in the eye and fight. He looked like a horse that wanted to fight but didnt have much left in the tank.

pmayjr 11-05-2006 09:49 PM

I agree DaHoss. What if he just wasn't good enough?

I could run with all my heart vs. Carl Lewis, but in the end he'll still smoke me in the 100 year Dash. AND YES THIS ANALOGY DOES APPLY TO YESTERDAY.

So I don't understand all of this "Bernie has no heart" talk. And to set the record straight, I'm a longshot player who was trying to beat him. So I'm not trying to make any excuses on the basis of wagering here. I just hope we can see them go head to head 1 more time. Now that Bernie has this one under his belt, let's see how he responds.

If they were to meet up again, and Invasor romps again, are you still gonna say "He's got no heart", or are you gonna say "Invasor is just better"? But I hope we get 1 more time to see... Otherwise- BRING ON DISCREET CAT

pgardn 11-05-2006 09:57 PM

Damn guys he is a three year old. You think he has peaked? Bernadini is a very good animal but inexperienced in battle. He just got a lesson. He stayed out of the cavalary charge that is the Kentucky Derby. He ran against small fields. If he would keep on running, I could easily see him becoming a great horse.

lol a little harsh there mike and i wouldnt call him the most overglorified horse in racing history, not by a longshot! im sure you really didnt mean that

repent 11-05-2006 10:22 PM

Invasor is really not all that much older.

right....he is a 3yo. that is why he was carrying 4 lbs less than invasor. but even with that advantage he still didn't show anything when invasor ran up to him.
as for him being a great 4yo. that is no sure thing. look no further than the 3yo last year that (like bernardini) followed up victories in the jim dandy and travers with a second place in the bcc. flower alley regressed considerably this year because apparently, he just stopped trying. same thing could easily have happened to bernardini if he had kept running

Sure that can happen. I just think Bernardini is a much better horse all the way around.

i'm glad to know you guys are at least consistent. in your minds, even after yesterday....it is still completely improper to question bernardini.

Oh get real, the most over-hyped piece of filth in the world was that pig Flower Alley, in order for him to be looked in the eye it would have required the whole field to run backwards.

Well Bernardini and FA won the Travers and ran 2nd in the Classic, so it may not be too far off...And I don't remember anyone labeling FA an all time great...

Pointg5 11-06-2006 07:37 AM

And FA and Bernardini both won the Jim Dandy, they really are not that much different...

How many 3 legged horses did FA beat?

If Bellamy Road was overrated, then what does that make Bernardini?

Bernardini did not run one race nearly as impressive as BR's Wood and they both had easy romps...

FA = Bernardini and that's not too far off, Bernardini has the JCGC, but FA probably faced better Competition in the Spiral Stakes....

I don't claim to work in the sport or want to work in it in the future, you may be hurting your future by making claims that are rediculous...BR ran a monster Wood and his Travers was unreal given the lack of preps...

lol its notta claim and most here whove known me for years know what i say regarding myself personally is valid. for the past few months ive been working at the barn helping out my trainer, for the past year+ ive been picking out horses to claim and buy for his other clients, im also a owner. i have no ambition to work long term in the sport, my ambition is to continue to own and race and just be a huge fan like i am now.

now if you can get away from personally attacking me i do feel BR shouldnt even have been put in the travers but nonetheless not only him but the rest of the field crawled down the lane, it was a sad sight. again i ask you WHO did he beat in the wood in which he had everything all his own way? WHAT did he do in louisville when things werent all his own way?

hoovesupsideyourhead 11-06-2006 03:31 PM

overrated..by who..won 5 out of six..2nd in the last ..hes a nice horse..artie shiller now thats a paper champion..

Bernardini 11-06-2006 03:36 PM

Dini ran his race, got out-gunned !!! no shame whatsoever. way to go Invasor !!!
But I would never compare Dini to the past champions or vice versa, just not fair !!
