Of course Arrogate on top, but who's ranked second ?

Is it:
Gun Runner(returning @ Churchill).....?
Mor Spirit......up the charts with a bullet ?
I'm a big Gun Runner fan,but Mor Spirit is on a top notch heater.
Edge to Mor Spirit.........I think.

Send It In

Mastery

SniperSB23 06-13-2017 10:29 AM

At this point I think it is Gun Runner or Shaman Ghost. Mor Spirit will have to prove himself beyond a mile and a sixteenth to earn that spot.

Yup. The super brilliant types seem to always have abbreviated careers, if not lives.

Up to 9f Mor Spirit would demolish Ghost. 10f who knows?

Hopefully we get to find out if that is true in the Whitney and/or Woodward.

Has to be War Story. He beat the fastest horse ever, Tu Brutus, by like 5 lengths last race!

I'm going with Send it In because 10f is much more commonly run than 12f, plus I thought, even with the perceived anti rail bias and slow pace, Tu Brutus was ridden weirdly.

My understanding is that Send It In is done racing.

This question should apply to Non Baffert trained horses only.

Why? He arguably has 3 of the top 5 handicap horses in the country.

One could argue he has three of the top three. Speaking of arguing, why are you more timid than usual (multiple uses of arguably) today?

Was off Friday. Sent to Rood & Riddle for evaluation.

What did they find? Obviously I was being facetious about him being the second best older horse, but he was kind of a neat horse to watch.

Not totally sold on Cupid yet. But he did run huge last time. At this point i would still rate Gun Runner ahead of him.

Yeah, I agree but you can still build a weak case for cupid.

exactly, the guy is just on another level right now.

They seem to be treating Gunrunner like the second coming now.

I agree, though this field is a bit trash so he does not have to run all that well to win.

ElPrado 06-17-2017 08:21 PM

And about Baff, when you get the horses he does, it's because you get the results he does.

Never been a huge fan, but he has progressed well and should crush these horses.

He ran well...

interesting ride on Bird Song

Guess that just shows how big the gap is with Arrogate and the rest of the dirt horses.

Gun Runner

RHT2004 06-17-2017 09:16 PM

Gotta respect Gun Runner. Travels all over and seems to improve every time. He cant beat Arrogate but that's OK. Lots of big races to be won.

Hard to beat a horse that never runs

This is absolutely ridiculous. The BC Classic, Pegasus, Dubai World cup triple isn't enough?

Figured I stir you up lol

Here's a question for you.Do you guys like the way Arrogate was developed, meaning as Baffert did without rushing him into graded stakes within 30 seconds of a maiden win, versus running them in Gr stakes by their second breath, which seems to have become the norm now in New York based trainers?

Tough year to be Gun Runner. He has thrown out 4 straight 110 BSFs now if you include the DWC. He'd be a clear cut favorite for the BCC and HOY in a bunch of recent years.

Going from a conditioned allowance race to the classic 10f Travers is a patient progression?

Make no mistake, if Arrogate didn't have physical issues as a 2yo he would have likely been another TC burnout.

By the way, who are all these NY-based rush jobs? A comparable horse to Arrogate last year was Connect, who actually got in a minor stakes start prior to the Travers.

Maybe Pletcher?

Though I hardly see how young horses are handled differently based on geographical location.

Restricting ourselves to 3yo that missed the Triple Crown, Pletcher certainly gave Strong Hope, Left Bank, and Speightstown plenty of time to develop.

If anything, its easier to develop a late bloomer in NY, because they actually can still fill allowance races restricted to 3yos there.
