Cajun/Buffy's NAME picking Breeder's Cup Contest

OK, here is the fun contest. All you have to do is pick one horse from each Breeder's Cup race based on name alone. No researching or reading PPs, etc... This is a silly contest meant to be fun. Just look at the entries and pick a name that strikes your fancy. I know that you are going to pick your faves in certain races, (Like I am not going to go with Drifty in the Classic or Gorella in the Mile). This contest is just for fun no prize, just bragging rights and we shall dub you King/Queen of something. (We are going to come up with a name.)

Entries due in by 11am on Nov. 4th.

And everyone BE NICE! This is just a fun game Cajun and I thought of just to have some fun. Don't begrudge us our fun... :)

paisjpq 10-25-2006 09:55 AM

classic---Suave
turf---Cacique...although I would like to know if he is named for tribal chief/political leader or the Lane Bryant line of plus sized lingerie:eek:

FM Turf--Ouija Board...obvious I know but I actually really like the name.

Cajungator26 10-25-2006 09:57 AM

Classic: David Junior (David = sentimental to me.)

Turf: Icy Atlantic (Atlantic reminds me of here.)

Distaff: Healthy Addiction (is there such thing as a "healthy" addiction? :D)

Mile: Rob Roy (I loved Tim Roth's character in that movie.)

Sprint: Friendly Island (Just a vibe about this name.)

F&M: My Typhoon (Hurricane season, baby!)

Juvy: Stormello (Once again, reminds me of hurricane season.)

Juvy Fillies: GATORIZE! (HELLO! GO GATORS! :D)

slotdirt 10-25-2006 10:11 AM

Here goes nothing...

Classic: Lawyer Ron (I always go with a horse with a "law" name)

Turf: Hurricane Run (because I run from hurricanes here in FL)

Distaff: Healthy Addiction (because I get accused of being addicted to horses here at work all the time)

MILE: Gorella (her name makes me giggle. Looks like Gorilla)

Sprint: Too Much Bling (cause a girl can never have too much...)

F&M Turf: Dancing Edie (cause I visualize someone dancing in the rain I don't know why)

Juvy Colts: Got the Last Laugh (cause it made me laugh)

Juvy Fillies: Dreaming of Anna (because when I was younger I wanted to be Anna Devane because I was in love with Duke Lavery. Bonus points with me if you know what I am talking about. :) )

Hwjb 10-25-2006 10:56 AM

Classic: Suave
Turf: Honey Ryder
Distaff: Healthy Addiction
Mile: Ivan Denisovich...brilliant novel.

the juv fillies was the hardest i thought, i could have picked 4 or 5. the best of all the races i think, i agree the the juv boys do not have catchy names, if for not king of the roxy i wouldn't like any:)

Nascar1966 10-25-2006 03:07 PM

Nothing like having a little bit of fun with the names, my wife makes her pick by using the names. So here we go:

Juvenile Fillies-Cash Included (Wouldnt this be a good way to get rich if this was true)

Juvenile-Scat Daddy (Im sure we told our dads at one time to go away)

Filly & Mare Turf-Wait A While (Seems like ive been doing this at the VA hospital lately, even though I have an appointment)

Sprint-Too Much Bling (Have to agree with BuffyMommy)

Mile-Free Thinking (This applies to people with attitudes I would think)

Distaff-Healthy Addiction (This one isn't for all the junk food eaters)

Turf-Hurricane Run (I had to run away from Rita last year and a 5 hour ride took me and the wfe around thirty hours. Yes I had to pull off and take a nap)

Classic-Perfect Drift (Most of us perfectly drift to sleep)

Might not be the best one's but nothing wrong with having some fun.

Kasept 10-25-2006 05:36 PM

JF-Adrythem (..when you get the blues..)

SPR-Attila's Storm (A "hun"-dinger of a name..)

TRF-Scorpion (Nov. 20th bday..)

CLS-Invasor (Sounds cool..)

MIL-Courtnall (MTL Hockey legend Russ)

DIS-Baghdaria (Steely Dan song?..)

F/MT-Honey Ryder (Dr. No)

JV-King of the Roxy (weakest division for names..)

Hickory Hill Hoff 10-25-2006 05:46 PM

Just like the "old days" when I was a kid and still like many people I know do it.
Whatever works, I tell people if you can cash a ticket!

GREAT HUNTER (JUV.COLTS)
FILM MAKER (FILLY & MARE TURF)
WAR FRONT (SPRINT)

Free Thinking (mile)
Lemons Forever (Distaff)

Aragorn (mile)
Spun Sugar (Distaff)

Cacique ( Is this the sound that French people make when they sneeze?)
Sleeping Indian (Please don't wake this sucker up, cause he can run like hell!!)
Bushfire(Makes me think of the joke about how to cure crabs)
U D Ghetto (and U D man in the Juvy, I think.)
Pro Pink (Is this another name for colored condoms or what?)
Areyoutalkintome (Gotta love this one. Is this straight out of "Taxi Driver"?)
Red Rocks (This is what happens when you don't know how to cure crabs)

swedejxn 10-27-2006 07:54 AM

Gearing up for next weekend....

Classic---- Premium Tap.... what comes out of a tap? mmmmm beer
doh!!!
Turf---- Hurricane Run... after Katrina... what else???

Distaff--- Spun Sugar... Making Cotton Candy tomorrow at a Car Show...

Mile--- Rob Roy... more liquor... please

Sprint--Too Much Bling-- bling bling cha-ching

F & M Turf... Mauralakana--- hell can't pronounce it...

Juvy-- pegasus wind--- just sounds like he will fly

Juvy gals--- Dreaming of Anna--- MS. Kournakova I presume...

only about half of these have a chance of winning and only Anna is currently a first choice for me...

GenuineRisk 10-27-2006 09:38 AM

What a fun contest, Cajun and Buffy! Thanks!

Okay:

Classic: Sun King, because I had a brief flirtation years ago with a very handsome young man named... Sun King. No kidding. I saw his driver's license. His parents were hippies.

Mile: Free Thinking, because I like to think I am.

Distaff: Lemons Forever, in honor of the only two cars I ever owned. Suited them both.

F/M Turf: Toss up between Film Maker and Ouija Board. I'll pick Film Maker, because of the short film my husband and I just shot. It stars sock puppets.

Juvenile colts: Pegasus Wind. I was a big Greek mythology nerd when I was a kid. Enough so that when I went to see "Clash of the Titans" I complained to my parents that Perseus didn't tame Pegasus; the movie was all wrong!!!

Juvenile Fillies: She's Included. As a kid I was a geek and always felt on the outside, looking in. :( I'm still a geek, but a more socially adept one. :)

Sprint: Commentator. Because I have an opinion about everything and I usually verbalize it.

Turf: Scorpion. I love the creepy crawlies.

I think I'm going to send this to my husband and ask him to pick names, too. It's his usual handicapping strategy, anyway.

Hey, C and B, can we repick if our choices don't make it into the race?

You have until 11am (FL time) on Nov. 4th to change your picks. I am printing the picks then and am going with what is there then. :)

Tell your hubby. I will post my hubby's picks too.

Distaff: Asi Siempre

Oh well, I ended up leaving them as they were. Too big a chicken to change so if I mess up it's not like they were all my actual picks. This is such a fun game.

Oh, there goes my Sprint pick. Change my Sprint pick to Nightmare Affair.

Buffymommy 11-01-2006 08:02 AM

Hey, the cutoff is now going to be 10am on Saturday. Sorry for the bump of an hour, but I have to leave my house at 10 to take my nephew to his baseball game.

SO YOU CAN MAKE CHANGES TO YOUR PICKS UNTIL 10A.M. ON SATURDAY.

GenuineRisk 11-01-2006 03:44 PM

Okay, here are my husband's choices-- those of you who have partners, family or friends who like to pick based on names, here's a fun game-- have them make their choices, while at the same time YOU pick who you think they will pick and see how many you get right... I guessed five of eight of my husband's choices. He got two of mine. 'Cause I'm so unpredictable. :)

Anyway, here are his, with his comments. I picked Film Maker for him, so I'm going to give myself a 5.5 out of 8.

CLASSIC
Lava Man (reminds me of the Molten Man, a Spidey villain)

JUVY FILLIES
Gatorize (ditto for Batman's "Killer Croc")

JUVENILE
Got the Last Laugh (reminds me of, you guessed it, The Joker -- spotting a theme here?)

FILLY & MARE TURF
Honey Ryder (tough call, not choosing Film Maker, but Honey Ryder is a shady Bond Girl, and more in keeping with my theme)

SPRINT
Areyoutalkintome (how could I choose anything else here? True, not a villain, but an anti-hero, which is close enough)

MILE
Super Frolic (sounds like a villainous Porn Star)

DISTAFF
Fleet Indian (not part of the theme, the first role I played in junior high was "Fleet Foot", an Indian in Little Mary Sunshine, although I am of course, a speedy (part) Native American myself - and occasionally mildly nefarious, if not downright villainous...)

TURF
Scorpion (This actually is a Spider-Man villain).

Distaff- Balletto: Because of the lovely poster on this forum ;)

Buffymommy 11-04-2006 08:24 AM
