Another great chance for VJS to get from behind the whistle and VJ Girls Basketball games and in Front of a mike AGAIN.

GOOD LUCK VIC

From the article

"We are not going to replace an icon of three decades in less than three weeks, nor are we going to try. Santa Anita will undertake a world-wide search to find the next voice of The Great Race Place for the next generation,” said Joe Morris, SVP West Coast Operations for the Stronach Group. “In the meantime, we are extremely fortunate to have two exceptional race callers available to us in Michael Wrona, who is a member of the Stronach Group family through his years at Golden Gate Fields, and Frank Mirahmadi, who has done a great job of subbing for Trevor during the last two seasons. While it is possible that the right candidate ultimately might indeed be Michael or Frank, we owe it to our fans to find the perfect person, whomever and wherever they may be.” "

Im trying Jim...as it stands today I'm in on points but slipped this past weekend, I'm not throwing in the towel yet...

helicopter11 12-04-2015 07:23 PM

Vic or mirramadi for sure. Just not Larry collmus

Rudeboyelvis 12-04-2015 08:33 PM

I'm betting Wrona with Vic taking the GG gig. He seems very content in No. Cal.

SilverRP 12-04-2015 09:02 PM

Please not wrona or mirramadi.

Rupert Pupkin 12-05-2015 04:23 AM

I am a big fan of Vic but I think there may be an issue between he and Stronach. Stronach let Vic go several years ago over some trivial matter. Stronach seems like a pretty stubborn guy. I could be wrong but he doesn't really seem like the type of guy who would rehire someone who he let go.

I would think the favorite to get the job would be Frank. I would be happy with either Vic or Frank. I think they are both excellent.

By the way, Tevor is not totally retiring. He is still going to call the races for both Del Mar meets.

Obviously ? his name wasnot mentioned,just saying ? :p

SilverRP 12-05-2015 08:23 AM

I know he's a nyra guy and there's no shot at him calling Santa Anita, but John Imbriale is hands down the best out there right now IMO. He's got "it" whatever it is. Wrona is like finger nails on a chalkboard and frank sounds like a Debbie downer at the end of a race. His calls are so strange. Can't imagine him getting the full time gig.

Thanks for the Input Ms. Imbriale :zz:

Pretty much every announcer in the country? Imbriale is a good guy who does decent fill-in work but even he wouldn't claim to be anywhere near the top racecaller.

I'm exaggerating obviously but I legit think you're crazy for having Imbriale anywhere near the top and I think he'd even agree.

Ok. Your opinion and my opinion.

GPK 12-05-2015 10:39 PM

Grunder us the only choice.

neither am i , he was once great, but had become a shill and the loading of horses a bore of naming each one with i d to help him remember, then the same
trite phrases ad infinitum. like to see becker step in there.

As a west coast guy I will be sad to see him go. Perhaps he has lost a little bit but he to me is still far ahead of Becker who just lists the running order without any indication of how they are travelling, being under a ride, etc. I also like that Trevor gives a play-by-play of the loading process as I don't always have 100% attention on every track and when I hear him saying such-and-such moving in then I can go make that last minute bet as opposed to Becker who doesn't say anything other than "They're at the Post," after the whole field is loaded and by then it's too late.

I think Frank M. would be my choice for replacement but any of the previous names mentioned would do a fine job. Well, maybe not Grunder.

Well said. I'll be sad to see him go as well.

I would love to see Vic get the job...

I was very critical of Trevor getting the BC gig and thought he did not live up to Durkin's standard, but I've grown to appreciate him over the years simply because he knows how to observe the flow of the race. This sounds like it should be easy, but in the heat of the moment to be able to fluently tell the story of a race is a rare gift and Trevor had it.

Also, IMO there is only one replacement and that's Vic. No matter what personal issues you might have with the guy, the SoCal circuit has sorely missed his voice and other than John Dooley, there's no racecaller more deserving of this elevated post.

:tro: Exactly Joey and Vic has this ability to deliver this in such a fashion you can see the race with your eyes closed.

Word is that Wrona and Mirahmadi will be sharing SA and GG duties.

I listened to Roger Stein's show from yesterday and he had Mirahmadi on and Frank echoed that. So does that mean he will not be calling the races from Oaklawn coming up?

Was listening to Down the Stretch on the way to TBD Saturday morning and apparently the now extended SA meet (with the closing of Hollywood Park) is too long and takes him away from his ranch in MN much longer than he wants to be away.

Good for him. Fortunate is the man who prioritizes his own terms.

Rudeboyelvis 12-08-2015 12:42 PM

Per his twitter account, Frank Mirahmadi has resigned from Oaklawn to pursue opportunities with The Stronach Group and Santa Anita Park
