Pharoah vs. Older, what's next . . . ?

So he romped today, Victor nudged him slightly on the far turn to take over the race with 2 or 3 little hand pumps and then sat chilly, hands still, throttled down and coasting to the wire . . . thus he had an easy work out today . . . So there are no 3YO's that can carry his horse shoes let alone run against him. Question is, is there a horse of any quality of any age that can give him a run for his "money" . . . can't think of any . . .

Who is out there . . . anybody, I doubt it!!!

Obnoxious, no?

What has Obnoxious done and who has he or she beaten? Never heard of the horse. Must be a dark horse.

richard burch 08-02-2015 10:06 PM

as good/great as a.p has looked i'm not going to say an older or euro horse couldn't beat him. he's going to have to earn it in the b.c.

I'd really like to see some horse make him earn. The Derby was somewhat of a test but he was still learning and there was 18 other freaking wanna-bees he had to deal with.

Speaking of freaking . . . AP is truly the definition of a FREAK. Bring'em on I say, bring'em on.

Yep, the "competition" better get crackin. Let's see how much of a sweat he had today . . . little if any and go from there. I know one thing that Zyatt is all in on having his "God Send" run and if he's fit and OK after today, going forward, he will run if not 2 at least one more this year. You can put that in the bank.

tector 08-03-2015 08:52 AM

My guess is they'd prefer one more race before the BC, not 2. I don't know that there is a suitable one on the calendar midway between now and the BC. If not, somebody will write him one, or enhance a pre-existing race (like the Mass Cap did for Cigar, etc.)

MaTH716 08-03-2015 09:05 AM

Zayat has certainly said all the right things regarding the horse and the fans. Well the fans want to see him run in the Travers, lets see if he puts his money where is mouth is now.

There are bonuses tied to specific goals in the Coolmore contract. Created races (like the one MTH offered) wouldn't be in it.

Is there any way he can become the all-time money earner?

Guess that means we won't be seeing him at Canterbury for their proposed $2 million race....Dang.

DonGuido 08-03-2015 11:12 AM

OK, last time . . . it's not about the money. The connections have more money than Fort Knox . . . it's about prestige, history and more than anything taking the right path for the horse and the fans.

Forget about the purses and money. That said, Travers and BC Classic get ready.

it's not only about the money, but money is always a part of it.

Travers!

Bloodhorse | Zayat: American Pharoah to Run in Travers

ETA: Ugh. The headline is misleading. No commitment to Travers as yet.

Also pretty sure those quotes are from At the Races this morning.

Rupert Pupkin 08-06-2015 12:18 AM

I heard that Del Mar is talking about the possibility of delaying the Pacific Classic for a week if AP will run. That would give him 4 weeks instead of 3. I don't know if that would make the connections of AP reconsider, but I guess Del Mar thinks it's worth a try.

Del Mar can always sweeten the pot by letting Zayat pick the post positions.

Listening to comments from Baffert it doesn't sound like he is in love with the new surface.

Danzig 08-06-2015 11:33 AM

since they said ap won't face older til the bcc, the pac classic is out. and in the bloodhorse article the other day, they said ap was tired after his trip..so i don't know that them saying he was tired bodes well for shipping again at the end of the month.

Bloodhorse | Baffert Indicates Travers Next For 'Pharoah'

Quote:

Speaking during an interview on the "Lenny's Place" video on bloodhorse.com, Baffert noted that "Mr. Zayat made it clear he wants to run in the Travers, so I'll give the horse every opportunity, if he's 100%, to do that," Baffert said from Saratoga, where he is attending the yearling sale. "

alysheba4 08-11-2015 07:33 AM

I think it would be too much his 7th race at 6 race tracks in 5 months.......

that's a damn shame that it's gotten to this point, that 7 races in six months would be considered too much.
the horse dictates the schedule. if he's good, he'll run.

American Pharoah looking fresh and eager
Jay Privman, Del Mar
2015-08-11-DRF Live

AMERICAN PHAROAH looked very well this morning, with a gallop under exercise rider Jorge Alvarez notable for the snug hold Alvarez had to have on the reins to keep an apparently fresh and eager American Pharoah from doing more than needed for the day.

Trainer Bob Baffert gave American Pharoah an extra day of walking after returning from the Haskell, and even jogged him two days thereafter, so it was a full week from the race until American Pharoah resumed galloping on Sunday.

His gallops have all been quite good on Sunday, Monday, and again this morning. If he continues to progress like this, I would expect a very satisfactory breeze on the weekend as he progresses toward his next start, which will be the Travers if -- if -- he doesn't regress.

So far, so good.

If you want to see American Pharoah -- and why wouldn't you? -- he goes out at 7:45 every morning, right after a renovation break.

OldDog 08-11-2015 01:21 PM

There you go. Bring AP to the Spa, Bob.
