Pope and Pharaoh
Talk around here is that they want to get both the Pope and AP up to Parx for the PA Derby. The Pope is already scheduled to be here.
|
I'm starting to hear talk of a $2 million purse at PARX and the Pope. Rumors are flying, but there is discussion. This may not be settled for a bit. Apparently Pope nixed Saratoga.

I hope he stays away from parx. Heard monmouth was offering a "special" race for him in september.

I have to say it's the Spa and Travers or he skips it, chills, has some fun being just a horse again and goes to Kentucky for the BC Classic. What does he have to prove other than he is simply amazing in the everything he does and he's already done that over and over again. Keep reaching for something better for him to handle . . . it's not out there. |

I think the pope likes playing the "Stinking' Rich" slot machine so let him go there. |

With due respect to the Philadelphians on the board, the PA Derby is an awful spot for him. The facility is nowhere near capable of handling the type of crowd he'd bring and Parx management should never be rewarded for their viewpoint of racing as a necessary evil.

This hoss has earned the trip to Saratoga. It wouldn't be right to skip the Travers . This guy has done the right thing so far . He should continue. That would mean AP at the spa . They would open the infield and would be the biggest event in years .
Mr Zayat . Do not deny this hoss a Saratoga win. Zenyatta didn't come because of ignorant owners . Please don't follow in their footsteps |

Last year, with California Chrome, the venue was (seemingly) at full capacity. I can't even imagine the type of crowd they'd get if the Champ rolls through town. We can dream until our bubble bursts haha |
No doubt the Coolmore deal has some influence on AP's schedule and I would love to see him run at the Spa, I dont think Bob wants to, but AP only ran a mile race on Sunday and he was not all out at the top of the stretch.
Bob said he was nervous at the Haskell....wait until the Travers, he will be sweating bullets....;) |

i'd imagine the pacific classic is one they will consider, and would be ap's last hurrah in cali. he's done the east coast thing. |

Zayat has now ruled out the Pennsylvania Derby.

The Pacific Classic is now officially off the table. I would think that means The Travers is looking pretty good. Although Baffert said the horse was pretty wiped out when he got back to Del Mar yesterday. Hopefully he will be fully recovered in time to make The Travers.

yeah, read a bit ago on bloodhorse they don't want to take on older til the bcc, which is too bad.

Pope is having a hard time getting hotel rooms at the SPA on such short notice. Wanted 2 rooms at St. Charles and was turned down.
Bob has to call this. This is the best horse he's ever had and you have to trust that he is going to do the right thing with Bob is really him. This horse is precious to him. Whatever he does, and as long as he gets to do what he wants, I think it will be the right thing. Bob is really, really good. As he gets older, he's getting really, really better. I really don't think anybody else could have developed AP into the horse he is and kept him there. |
