Hammerin Hank

Is he no longer a part of the broadcast team? Was not on Saturday but was in the ESPN Studio Sunday morning.

Cannon Shell 10-17-2006 02:57 PM

got stuck at the buffet

Seattleallstar 10-17-2006 03:00 PM

hes useless

repent 10-17-2006 03:23 PM

hank is just sick and stuck at home in FL.

hes completely usless as a handicapper and is only there b/c ESPN is so totally pathetic in the department of thoroughbred racing.
their telecasts are a joke.

hank's "national pick 4" plays are hilarious.
never singles.
never does not include the favorite.
and very rarely hits.

Saw him at King Umberto's Saturday night after JCGC Day.. Sciacca got him a table as he showed up without a rezzie... "Hey Hank.. this ain't Miami and Joe's Stone Crab! You can't show up without a rez on Saturday night.."

my problem with Goldberg is not his ability as a handicapper. sure he isn't very good, but either are a lot of the guys on tvg or a lot of the people on this board.
my problem with him is as a broadcaster. he is always completely unprepared to actually speak on the air. he stumbles through every sentence. if he is gone.....good.
i like the Mayne-Moss-Bailey trio and J. Edwards is a classy gal. but goldberg is really bad.

pgardn 10-17-2006 05:46 PM

If the Hammer was gone, who would Kenny have to make fun of? You got to have a big fat guy to make fun of... 3/4 of Kenny's jokes are useless without HAMMERTIME. He would have to move in on Bailey's rail thin body.

I cant wait for Hammer to look Bailey straight in the eye and say, " A baby? Get in MY BELLY!"

I talked to him Saturday, actually...He was in the press box at Calder for the Festival of the Sun program....never mentioned anything, but then again we were talking horses...

blackthroatedwind 10-17-2006 05:55 PM

It was my understanding he didn't make it to NY because he was sick.

randallscott35 10-17-2006 05:56 PM

I will say again, Randy Moss one of the nicest people around, didn't hide his dislike of Hank when I spoke to him. Not even a little bit.

He didn't appear to be too sick when he was firing away in the Calder Press Box Saturday :D :D

Coach Pants 10-17-2006 06:15 PM

Lou Holtz would be a great replacement.

oracle80 10-17-2006 06:21 PM

Guys I'm not usually known around here as a pillar of sympathy, but could we maybe stop bashing the sick guy? Its not like hes a rapist, he gives bad horse picks.
I do indeed have standards. They are VERY ,VERY, LOW, but I have them.

I won't bash him simply because if I were in his situation I'd give bad picks as well. What benefit does he get out of giving winning tickets? Does anyone think ESPN execs would notice or care?

More power to Hank. Anyone who bets picks based on his or tvg/hrtv analysts picks deserve to lose.

Hes nowhere near as bad as the smarmy "ex trainers who wanna wear polyester jackets and take orders from 20 something year old kids experts" who sit on TVG and explain everything and point out what all the trainers WHO COULD HACK IT AND STILL ARE TRAINING FOR A LIVING WITH CLIENTS WHO SEND THEM HORSES are doing wrong.
The most nauseating of these events being when AA's trainer announced he stopped at Oaklawn because he had a lung infection and they laughed and called it an excuse. Yeah, those guys in the blazers are the goods.
You wanna get on someone, get on those guys. At least Hank doesn't claim he could do a better job at training them and annouce where they have erred.

Cunningham,
Moss seriously was open about not liking Hank? Hmmm... Hnk isn't very good, and it's sometimes a reflection on me. Like me, Hank likes to pick longshots. And so if I found out he picked the same horses as me, I shopuld just rip up my tix lol.

I just figured maybe he wasn't doing horse racing coverage last Sat, because of football on Sun. Doesn't he still help out ESPN NFL pregame, doing pregame and psost game coverage of certain games (especially if Miami is playing a home game?)?

I thought so but Miami was on the road at NY last Saturday and he was in the Calder press box firing away......

He'd train a Grade 1 level horse, let's say Bernardini because he is on everyone's minds these days, and say before the Breeders' Cup Classic, "I'm scared to death of Ball Four."

You missed the obvious pep talk he would give them!! Remember back in 1990 when the Irish were going to play the undefeated number one team in a bowl and the cameras caught him in a private meeting with the team saying " I promise you!!! They will quit!!!!" They did indeed quit.
Can't you just see him before the race? " I promise you!!!!! When they hit the eigth pole, he will quit!!!!"

I agree 100%. What's hilarious is one of those "analysts" had incredible stock as a trainer and couldn't hack it. Why he was hired is beyond me. One of his excuses for quitting is he didn't like getting up in the morning. WTF? Did he not know that was a requirement before he started?

I loved the 1/8th pole comment, too!

Or what about this pep talk? "I promise you, as soon as he sets foot on the polytrack, it's over!!! He won't run a lick against you!!"

That was it, they killed them.

Lets remember a little further back when Holtz coached the New York Football Jets. He tried to give them a pep talk and they laughed him out of the locker room. Holtz had a great stint in the pro's. 3-10. He beat the Buffalo Bills twice (2-12) and the Tampa Bay Bucanneers (0-14). Crazy Lou then found out college was his gig.

So as a trainer, I would not trust him in any Graded Stakes.

I have not much bad to say about Hank. Though he knows losers.
Mutton Chops is the one that makes me vomit.
Anyway, I'm hoping to see both of them go toe to toe in a "barb wire" match sometime very soon. I'd pay if it was on pay for view.
Heck, I'd like to see them go against each other in a 100 yd dash. I'd bet on which one had cardiac difficulties first.

Can guys like that actually dash? or dart for that matter...

100 yard roll or waddle or do they just courageously wade thru their own gravity? Im sorry. Should not be assaulting what could be considered dwarf planets.
