Could poly bring back the 12 furlong "dirt" race?
This is NOT to argue whether or not polytrack is a good thing. I think we can all agree on two things so far:
1) Horses come back less sore after running on polytrack. 2) Turf horses do well on polytrack. Considering those two factors wouldn't it be reasonable to think that if tracks with polytrack began carding 12 furlong stakes races on them that they might actually fill? Could it potentially lead to a rebirth in 12 furlong "dirt" racing in the US? Any thoughts? |
Is this good or bad?

Why? So we can spend another 30 seconds watching one good horse beat up on four slow horses? No thanks. |

Me, I'd rather watch Martha Stewart than to watch anything less than graded stakes horses run 12f. Ever catch some of those 5k claimers that go 10f in about 2:13? COmpletely boring. I'm not sure why the poly would have any impact on whether or not they go back to more 12f though... |

Personally I would love to see more thoroughbreds go back to what they were meant to do; run long distances!
|
for the good of the breed and to at leat have one true distance race in America

Then, perhaps, we should just set them all free in the wild west. |

amen! you said it |

Could they maybe have a thoroughbred division? |

Maybe you like your sprint races, but the fact that we no longer have horses with the ability to have speed & stamina over a course of ground is just pathetic. The turf horse have maintained this ability for the most part while the American dirt horse hasn't. |

god your scaring me sight, i was about to type out the same things |

I was joking with the wording of your post not the intentions. I prefer turf racing to dirt for betting and think the entire industry is its own worst enemy. Thus, in essense, I am for anything they currently are NOT doing. |

I really don't see anything funny about someone who has taken public stances against the safety of the US, either here or elsewhere. |

Honestly, I am getting to the point where I don't blame people for cheating, you can't be competitive if you don't and the powers that be basically endorse it with some of the stallions that fetch big money. |

The Perryville got the field it did for a far different reason than Polytrack.....and his name is Discreet Cat. Don't think for one instant that Latent Heat, Praying for Cash and, at least, High Finance would have run in the Grade 3 Perryville, and not the Grade 2 Jerome ( at their home track ), if Discreet Cat wasn't running. |

One time I told him that someone had made fun of him as a joke, just to get his blood pressure up. before I could tell him I was only kidding, he had posted to the guy(who had absolutely no idea why he was saying this!!LOL!!) that he was gonna find him and tear him apart. |

So, they are going to dramatically alter the breed to suit this new surface? Good luck. I say they just paint it green and call it what it is. |
